I can't remember anything.
How I got here, who was with me, who my family and friends are, what I even look like.
I know I'm a woman—obviously—and that I'm African American.
But everything else is gone.
My memories are as blank as the white sheets that cover my body.
¨Miss?¨ ¨Miss, can you hear me?¨ I hear a female doctor call.
I see a dark tanned woman, with long black hair braided into a ponytail, wearing a long, white doctor jacket.
¨My name is Dr, Patel.¨ She greets me, warmly.
I noticed she spoke with a British accent.
¨Where the HELL am I?¨ I asked frantically.
¨You are at St. Mary's Hospital, in London.¨ She says calmly.
She proceeds to check my vitals, and I try to remember how I got here.
¨Why can´t I remember ANYTHING!?¨ I asked her.
¨Miss, you need to sit up.¨ She tells me.
I sit up in the hospital bed and she sits on the chair next to me.
¨You have a head injury, which might be causing your memory loss. It's not uncommon for someone to lose their memories after a head injury. You might remember everything once the swelling goes down. But until then, we're going to have to do some tests.¨ She explains.
As she was talking, I kept getting flashes of a man's face.
He had chiseled, dark black hair and dark brown eyes.
I could see him smiling at me, and it was the most beautiful smile I had ever seen.
Who is he?
¨Dr. Patel?¨ I called her name.
She looked at me and I told her about the flashes of the man's face I kept seeing.
I described him to her, and she wrote it down in her notebook.

She said that these could be important memories and that I should tell her everything that I remember. Dr. Patel left the room to consult with a specialist.
I was left alone with my thoughts, staring at the ceiling, trying to remember anything about my life before this hospital room.
That´s when I suddenly got a flashback.
I had to be around 8-years old, and I was sitting on a park bench with that same man who I now realized, looked a lot like me. He had the same mocha skin and dark brown eyes.
This man...had to be my DAD.
I also remember having two puffs in my hair and wearing a pink polka-dot dress with golden sandles. I was smiling as my dad was about to tell me something.
¨Anya Reed, you´re going to do great things one day.¨ He said, rubbing my back.
¨You really think so daddy?¨ I asked, still looking at him.
¨Of course baby girl. You´ve got more talent than I´ve seen from anyone in a long time.¨
¨Well, I really like writing my stories daddy.¨ I said
¨I know you do baby girl. And you´re very good at it too.¨
I turned my head and saw a man with blonde hair and blue eyes come from the door.
He had his hair combed back neatly, and he was wearing a white doctor's coat.
He smiled at me and introduced himself as Dr. Nathan Hennessy.
¨Are you feeling ok?¨ He asked, concerened.
¨I´m fine, thank you.¨ I said, smiling back at him.
¨I heard that you were experiencing some memory loss, are any of your memories starting to come back to you yet? Maybe something from your pass, or better yet, your name?¨ He asked, curious.
¨I just got a flashback, Anya Reed, that´s my name, and I was 8-years old and I was sitting on a park bench with my dad.¨ I said.
¨That's great! Do you remember anything else? What your dad looked like? What he was wearing? Any other details?¨ He asked, taking out his notebook and pen.
I closed my eyes, trying to remember every detail of that day.
When I opened my eyes again, I told him everything I remembered.
He listened intently, writing everything down in his notebook.
¨I want you to write down everything you remember, no matter how small it may seem. Even if it's just a word or a phrase, write it down. This will help us piece together your memories and figure out who you are Anya.¨ He said, handing me a notebook and pen.
I took the notebook and pen from him and sat back in my bed, ready to start writing.
I scribbled down everything I could remember, from the smallest detail to the biggest memory.
Dr. Hennessy came back into my room a few minutes later, checking on me again.
He saw that I was writing in the notebook he gave me and asked if I had remembered anything else.
I told him about the park bench memory and he listened intently, his blue eyes locked on mine.
When I finished telling him about the memory, he sat down next to me on my bed, his shoulder brushing against mine.
He told me that it was a good start and that he wanted to help me remember more.
I agreed and we spent the rest of the afternoon talking about my memories and piecing together my past. Dr. Hennessy asked me questions about my childhood and my family, trying to help me remember more details.
I told him about my parents and how they were always supportive of my dreams.
I told him about my friends and how we would spend hours playing together in the park.

As we talked, I started to feel more comfortable around Dr. Hennessy.
He was easy to talk to and made me feel at ease.
I found myself laughing at his jokes and feeling a warmth in his presence that I hadn't felt before.
As we continued talking, I started to feel a connection with Dr. Hennessy that went beyond just a doctor-patient relationship.
I couldn't quite explain it, but there was something about him that drew me to him.
Maybe it was his kind heart or his genuine interest in helping me remember my past.
Whatever it was, I couldn't deny that I was starting to develop feelings for him. As the afternoon wore on, Dr. Hennessy asked if I wanted to take a break and go for a walk outside with him.
I agreed and we headed out of my room, walking down the hallway towards the hospital entrance.
The fresh air hit us as we stepped outside, and I breathed it in deeply, feeling invigorated by the change of scenery.
We walked around the hospital grounds, enjoying the sunshine and talking about everything from our favorite books to our childhood memories.
The Doctor's Forgotten Bride
It was nice to have someone to talk to who didn't know me before this hospital room, someone who didn't know anything about my past or who I used to be.
