It was a scorching hot afternoon, and I had tickets to watch the latest Holy Grail Tournament.
For those who didn't know, it was a competition between Masters and their Servants.
The Masters would command their Servants as they fought in a battle to the death with other Servants.
The Master of the winning Servant would get any wish they wanted and desired.
They could ask for money, power, or even the answers to life's questions.
The only rule was that they couldn't use their wish to kill or maim another person.
Other than that, they could ask for anything.
I had always been adventurous, so I decided to attend this tournament to see how it worked out.
I sat in my seat and watched as two servants battled it out.
One of them was a Lancer, while the other one was an Archer.
The Lancer had the upper hand due to his ability to get close to his enemy.
However, the Archer managed to stay far away and attack the Lancer from a distance with his arrows.
Just as it seemed like the battle was reaching its climax, something went wrong.
The sky turned pitch black as demons began to fall from the sky like rain.
They invaded the stadium and started killing everyone in sight.
I tried my best to stay calm as I ran away from the stadium.
I sprinted through the service corridor of the stadium, my shoes squeaking against the polished floor.
Screams and demonic roars echoed behind me, making it hard to focus.
The emergency lights flickered on and off, casting erratic shadows on the walls.
I ran past a massive marble pillar that had somehow been torn out of the ground and crashed through the ceiling.
It crushed several rows of seats before coming to a stop in the middle of the corridor.
I crouched behind it, pressing my back against the cold stone.
A demon leapt over my hiding spot, its claws scraping against the pillar as it landed on the other side.
It hadn't seen me, but I knew it wouldn't take long for it to find me.
I peeked through one of the gaps between the seats and saw a few other survivors running down the corridor.
They were quickly followed by a few Servants who were fighting off a horde of demons.
The Archer from earlier was firing golden arrows at a winged beast that was swooping down from above.
He managed to kill it, but three more took its place soon after.
He tried his best to fight them off, but he was soon overwhelmed and killed. The demons continued their rampage, killing everyone in sight.
I held my breath as heavy footsteps approached my position.
I closed my eyes and waited for the worst to happen, but it never did.
The demon must have not seen me hiding behind the pillar.
I slowly got down on my hands and knees, pressing my body flat against the cold marble floor.
I inched forward on my elbows, keeping my movements slow and steady.
The service corridor stretched out before me, its emergency lights casting an eerie red glow.
Twenty feet separated me from the exit door.
A scratching sound echoed behind me, and I froze.
It sounded like a demon's claws scraping against metal.
Sweat trickled down my neck as I waited, counting my breaths.
When the sound faded, I continued crawling forward.
I had to be careful not to touch any of the debris scattered across the floor, or it would give away my position.
My hands shook as I navigated around a fallen ceiling panel.
The exit sign flickered above the door, promising safety just out of reach.
I took a deep breath and lunged for the door, praying it would open.
My hand closed around the cool metal handle, and I froze.
A hooded figure materialized from the shadows, their dark cloak brushing the floor.
"Need help?" they whispered, their voice low and urgent.
I hesitated for a moment, unsure if I should trust this stranger.
But desperation won out over caution, and I nodded.
The figure gestured toward a maintenance shaft in the wall that I hadn't noticed before.
It was hidden behind a row of seats, and its cover was slightly ajar.
The demon screeches grew louder, echoing through the corridor behind us.
My fingers released the handle, and I sprinted toward the shaft.
The hooded figure produced a key card and swiped it across a hidden panel beside the shaft.
The cover slid open with a soft hiss, revealing a narrow tunnel that plunged into darkness.
Without waiting for my response, they ducked inside.
The shaft swallowed them whole, leaving me to follow blindly.
The only sound was their footsteps echoing against the metal tunnel.
I matched my own steps to theirs, the rhythmic beat of our feet creating a hollow reverberation in the shaft.
The tunnel angled downward at a steep slope, forcing me to use the cold railings for support.
My hands made a slight squeak against the metal as I trailed my guide through the dark.
Sweat pooled on my palms, making it harder to grip.
I heard the key card beep again, and a faint blue glow appeared ahead of us.
My guide's hood slipped back slightly as they turned their head, revealing a sliver of silver hair that caught the light.
The shaft's walls were covered in thick pipes and narrow conduits that hummed with electricity.
A distant roar rumbled above us, reminding me of the demons we were fleeing from. My guide paused at an intersection in the tunnel, studying markings on the wall before taking the left path.
"Why are you helping me?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
The figure glanced back, their eyes glinting in the dim light.
"Because you're the only one who can stop this," they replied, urgency lacing their words.
