My name is Arlene, and I'm 17 years old.
I'm originally from England, and my parents own their own cosmetics brand, which is quite successful.
We're in Tokyo because we came here to establish an office for our company.
That day, I was walking home from the Tokyo Metropolitan High School, which I had enrolled in after coming to Japan, when I found a black notebook on the street.
It seemed like a high school notebook, so I picked it up and put it in my backpack, thinking that I would give it to the lost and found the next day.
When I got home, I sat on my bed and started pulling everything out of my backpack.
I saw the notebook and thought to myself, "Ah yes, the notebook I found. Let me take a look."
I opened it and started flipping through the pages.
As soon as I reached the first page, I felt a chill run down my spine.
The rules were written in red ink:
"The human who possesses this notebook shall be granted the power to control life & death."
The god of death will always watch over you & guide you.
This notebook is called the Death Note.
To k#l someone, write their name on the notebook in black ink.
The person whose name is written will die in 40 seconds.
If you write the wrong name or have spelling mistakes, the person will not die.
I turned to face the god of death, who was standing calmly in my room.
He was a tall, slender man with long black hair and piercing dark eyes.
He was dressed in a black suit and carried a large scythe in his right hand.
His presence filled me with unease, but I couldn't look away from him.
He noticed me staring at him and spoke in a calm voice, "I mean you no harm, Arlene. I am here to guide you and answer any questions you may have about the Death Note."
I hesitated for a moment before asking, "What are the rules of the Death Note?"
He smiled and began to explain, "The first rule is that the human who possesses this notebook shall be granted the power to control life and death. This means that you can decide who lives or dies."
I nodded, taking in his words.
He continued, "The second rule is that the god of death will always watch over you and guide you. I am here to help you understand how to use the Death Note and answer any questions you may have."
I looked at him with curiosity, wondering what it meant to have a god of death watching over me.
He noticed my confusion and explained further, "As the god of death, I have the power to see into the hearts of all living beings. I can sense their intentions and desires. With this power, I can guide you in making decisions about who should live or die."
I listened intently as he continued to explain the rules.
Ember, noticing my unease, sat down on the bed across from me.
He leaned forward slightly and said, "I know this must be a lot to take in, but I assure you that I am here to help. Now, tell me about your dream."
I took a deep breath and began to explain my dream of becoming a detective and solving the mystery of the world's greatest detective's murder.
Ember listened intently, his eyes never leaving mine.
He nodded occasionally, indicating that he understood what I was saying.
When I finished speaking, he leaned back on the bed and said, "That's quite an interesting dream you have there, Arlene. But tell me, what makes you think you can solve this mystery?"
I hesitated for a moment before answering.
I wasn't sure if I should share my true intentions with Ember, but something about him made me feel like I could trust him.
"I believe that the world's greatest detective was murdered by someone who calls themselves 'Kira,'" I said finally.
Ember's expression changed slightly at the mention of Kira's name.
He leaned forward again and said, "Ah, yes. Kira. A very dangerous individual indeed. He has been using the Death Note to kill people who he believes are guilty of crimes. But be warned, Arlene, Kira is not someone to be taken lightly. He is cunning and ruthless, and he will stop at nothing to achieve his goals."
I swallowed hard, feeling a chill run down my spine.
I had heard rumors about Kira, but I never thought that I would encounter him in person.
I looked at Ember and asked, "What do you think I should do?"
Ember leaned back on the bed again and said, "Well, that's up to you, Arlene. But if you want my opinion, I think it would be best if you stayed away from Kira. He's not someone you want to mess with."
I stared at him for a moment, my heart pounding in my chest.
But then, I hardened my resolve and said, "I will see to it that he pays for his crimes."
Ember's eyes narrowed slightly, as if he was sizing me up.
He stood up from the bed and walked over to where I was sitting.
His scythe glinted ominously in the dim light of my room.
"Very well, Arlene," he said calmly.
"But remember, confronting Kira is dangerous. Are you sure you're ready for this?"
I nodded, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Yes, I'm positive."
Ember sat down on the bed next to me, his scythe resting against the wall.
He looked at me with a serious expression and said, "I have been watching you for some time now, Arlene. I know that you are determined to become a detective and solve the mystery of the world's greatest detective's murder. And I must say, I am intrigued by your determination."
I looked at him, surprised by his words.
"What do you mean?"
I asked.
Ember leaned forward slightly and said, "I mean that I think you have great potential as a detective. And I would like to help you achieve your dream."
My heart skipped a beat as I heard his words.
I couldn't believe that a god of death was offering to help me.
"What do you want in return?"
I asked cautiously.
The Death Note And The God Of Death
Ember smiled slightly and said, "Oh, nothing much. Just a little something in return for my help."
I stared at him for a moment, trying to figure out what he meant.
"What do you want?"
I asked finally.
Ember leaned back on the bed again and said, "Well, Arlene, I have been watching you for some time now. And I must say that I am impressed by your determination and intelligence. But there is one thing that I don't understand about you."
"What's that?"
I asked curiously.
Ember looked at me with a serious expression and said, "Why do you want to become a detective so badly?" I thought about his question for a moment before answering.
"I want to become a detective because I love solving mysteries," I said finally.
"And I believe that becoming a detective will allow me to make a difference in the world."
Ember nodded thoughtfully and said, "I see. Well, Arlene, if you want my help in becoming a detective, then you must agree to my terms."
I looked at him warily and asked, "What are your terms?"
Ember smiled slightly and said, "Oh, nothing too difficult. Just a little something in return for my help."
I hesitated for a moment before asking, "What do you want?"
Ember leaned forward slightly and said, "I want you to let me stay with you while we work together. And in return, I will help you become the best detective in the world."
The Death Note And The God Of Death
I stared at him for a moment, trying to decide if I should agree to his terms.
I sat cross-legged on my bed, staring at Ember's towering figure.
His scythe glinted ominously in the dim light of my bedroom, and I couldn't help but feel a little intimidated by his presence.
But despite my reservations, I couldn't deny that he was offering me an opportunity that I couldn't pass up.
I looked down at the Death Note that was still clutched in my hands and said, "Okay, Ember. You can stay with me and help me become a detective."
Ember smiled slightly and said, "Good. Then let us begin our journey together."
He leaned forward slightly and said, "First things first, we need to get you some proper training. As a detective, you will need to be able to investigate crimes and gather evidence. And as a god of death, I can teach you some techniques that will help you do just that."
I nodded eagerly, excited at the prospect of learning from Ember.
He stood up from the bed and walked over to where I was sitting.
He reached out his hand and said, "Come on, Arlene. Let's go."
I took his hand and stood up from the bed.
The Death Note And The God Of Death
As I did, I noticed that my hands were shaking slightly.
I looked at Ember and asked, "What are we going to do first?"
Ember smiled slightly and said, "Don't worry, Arlene. We're just going to go for a walk." As we walked through the streets of Tokyo, Ember explained to me how he could teach me investigation techniques from the shinigami realm.
He told me that as a god of death, he had access to information that no human could ever hope to obtain.
And he promised to share this information with me if I agreed to let him stay with me.
I listened intently as he spoke, trying to absorb every word he said.
And as we walked, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement building inside of me.
I had always dreamed of becoming a detective, and now it seemed like that dream was finally within reach.
We walked for what felt like hours before we finally returned to my apartment.
As we entered the living room, I noticed that my parents' car was pulling into the driveway outside.
The Death Note And The God Of Death
They had just returned from the office opening ceremony and would be home any minute now. I quickly hid the Death Note under my pillow and turned back to Ember.
"Okay," I whispered urgently.
