His encounter with Amelia marks the beginning of new adventures together across space and time, as they bond over shared curiosity and thirst for exploration.
It was a beautiful day in Shenzhen.
I was walking down the street enjoying the warm sun on my skin and the cool breeze in my hair.
The sound of cars honking and people talking filled the air.
I loved days like this.
Days that felt full of possibility.
Days that made me feel like I could do anything I wanted to do.
Which is exactly what I was going to do.
I was going to take a picture of that strange blue box over there to send to my friend Sarah.
She loved science fiction, and this thing looked just like something out of Doctor Who.
"Police Box" was written on the side, which made me giggle.
Like the police would put a box like that out in the middle of an alley.
I walked around the large trash bin in the middle of the alley and approached the blue box.
Just as I raised my cell phone to take a picture, the door swung open and out leapt a man.
He looked like he had just jumped out of the air, which made me gasp in surprise, but what really surprised me was how handsome he was.
He had messy brown hair, a big smile, and gorgeous blue eyes.
I lower my phone and study him.
He's wearing a tweed jacket, a red bow tie, and suspenders.
The outfit is strange, but somehow it works for him.
He bounces on his heels as he looks at me, his smile so big it makes me want to smile back.
When I don't say anything, he takes a step closer to me and gestures toward the blue box behind him.
"It's called the TARDIS," he says in a crisp British accent.
"Time And Relative Dimension In Space."
I look between him and the blue box, trying to figure out what he's talking about.
People walk by us on the street, but they don't even glance our way.
I can hear their voices as they pass by, but it's like we're not even here.
My heart pounds as he takes another step toward me.
"I'm the Doctor," he says, holding out his hand.
He gestures toward the blue box again, his eyes twinkling.
"Would you like to come in?"
I hesitate, looking at the blue box.
It's a lot smaller than I thought it would be.
It looks like a closet, not a time machine.
I look back at the Doctor, who is still smiling at me.
I shake my head, laughing.
"No thanks," I say, turning and walking away.
The Doctor calls out after me, "It's much bigger on the inside!"
I keep walking, but I can hear him behind me.
"It's bigger on the inside," he repeats.
"I promise."
I stop and turn around, looking at him over my shoulder.
"Really?"
I ask skeptically.
He nods enthusiastically, his smile growing even wider.
"Come see for yourself," he says, gesturing toward the box again.
I look at the box, then back at the Doctor.
He seems so genuine, so excited about showing me this thing that I can't help but be curious. I walk back over to him and stop in front of the blue box.
The door is still open, and I can see a sliver of dim light coming from inside.
I hesitate for a moment, then step forward and peer into the box.
The light is warm and golden, and it spills out onto the pavement in front of me.
I can see a sliver of something shiny inside the box, but it's hard to make out what it is.
"It's okay," the Doctor says softly behind me.
"You can go in. It won't hurt you."
I take a deep breath and step forward again, putting one foot inside the box.
The floor is smooth and cool under my foot, and I can feel a slight vibration humming through it.
I take another step forward, and then another, until I'm standing fully inside the box. The door closes behind me with a soft click, and I hear the sound of locks sliding into place.
I turn around quickly, but before I can reach for the door handle, it opens again with another click.
The Doctor steps inside after me, closing the door behind him with a loud thud that makes me jump in surprise.
As soon as he's inside, he turns to face me and grins widely at my shocked expression.
"You see?" he asks triumphantly.
"It's much bigger on the inside."
And it is!
The room we're standing in is enormous!
The possibilities are endless.
I grip the railing as the Doctor dashes to the central console, flipping switches and turning dials with frantic energy.
The crystalline column in the center of the room begins to pulse with blue light, casting strange shadows across the metallic walls.
"What are you doing?" I call out, but my voice is drowned by a grinding, wheezing sound that fills the chamber.
The floor beneath me trembles more violently, and I stumble, barely keeping my footing.
Through the glass floor, I see mechanical parts spinning faster and faster.
The Doctor grins manically while adjusting his bow tie with one hand and pulling a large lever with the other.
