Lily Carter
scared, and confused. Lily tries to remember her past but finds it difficult. She discovers a note from her captor, stating she is a prisoner for her own protection. As she navigates the dark room, she finds a small window and attempts to escape. Her efforts are thwarted by the captor's return.
Dr. Smith

Mr. Black
controlling, and enigmatic. Mr. Black provides Lily with basic necessities but maintains strict control over her movements and interactions. He appears to be wealthy and powerful, as evidenced by the luxurious room he keeps Lily in. Despite his claims of protection, his motives remain unclear.
"What happened?"
I thought to myself.
I was scared, confused, and determined all at once.
I knew nothing about myself or the dark room I was in.
I slowly sat up and looked around the room.
It was dark, but I could see a little bit.
There was a small light in the corner of the room.
It was almost like a candle, but I couldn't see the flame.
I slowly stood up and took baby steps until I reached the light.
It was a small lamp with no shade or switch.
I could turn it on and off by just touching the metal.
I turned it on and looked around the room again.
It was bigger than I thought, but still too dark to see much.
The floor was made of dark hardwood, the walls were painted white, and the ceiling was painted red.
I saw a desk a few feet away, so I walked over to it.
There was a note on the desk that said, "Dear Lily, I know you're scared and angry. Don't worry; you're safe. I'm protecting you from danger. You're not safe out there. Be patient and don't try to escape. It's not safe for you. -Mr. Black"
I walked closer to the desk and ran my fingers over the smooth surface.
It was made of dark wood, like the floor.
I sat down in the chair and listened carefully for any sounds outside the room.
There was nothing but silence.
I could only hear my breathing.
I opened each drawer methodically, starting from the top and working my way down.
They were all empty except the bottom one.
It had a leather-bound journal in it.
I reached for it, but then I heard footsteps coming from somewhere outside the room.
They were getting closer and closer until they stopped right outside my door.
My heart pounded in my chest.
I snatched the journal and shoved it under the pillow on the bed.
I scrambled back over to the desk and grabbed the lamp.
The metal base felt cold and heavy in my sweating palms.
I moved beside the door and pressed my back against the wall.
I lifted the lamp above my shoulder, ready to swing it at whoever was coming through the door.
A key scraped in the lock, and then the handle turned with a metallic click.
The door creaked open, letting in a slice of fluorescent light from the hallway that cut across the floor.
"Lily, put the lamp down," a calm voice said as a tall figure stepped into the room.
"Who are you?" I demanded, my grip tightening on the lamp.
"I'm Mr. Black, and I'm here to explain everything, but you need to trust me first."
