She has a complicated relationship with Zhang, who she teases and challenges constantly. Despite their banter, she secretly harbors feelings for him but struggles to express them openly.

Zhang Wei
persistent, and determined. Zhang is known for his exceptional financial acumen and his ability to close highprofile deals. He harbors deep feelings for Kobayashi but struggles to express them due to her sharp tongue and competitive nature. Despite this, he remains committed to pursuing her and hopes to eventually win her heart.
Zhang asked on WeChat, "Kobayashi, are you interested in investment banking?"
I replied with a smiley face: "You're not going to invite me to dinner, are you? Don't even think about it! I make more than you do, and you still want to take me out for dinner?"
He sent a bunch of angry emojis.
I added, "Besides, I'm an accountant, and I make more than an investment banking pup like you. You should ask your mom to take you out for dinner."
The next day, Zhang came to our firm to meet with Yan Li.
Yan Li invited me to join them for lunch.
As soon as I walked into the conference room, I saw Zhang sitting there.
He looked up and stared at me with an intense gaze.
I sat down opposite him and said with a smile, "You're not going to cut my salary today, are you?"
Yan Li was caught off guard and asked, "What did you say?"
I pointed to Zhang and joked, "He's an investment banker. He must be here to cut our salaries."
Zhang couldn't take it anymore and said, "Kobayashi, I'll have you know that I'm a vice president at a top-tier investment bank in the US. I don't think you make more than I do."
"Oh," I said with a smirk, "so you're here to brag about your salary?"
Yan Li couldn't help but laugh.
I leaned back in my chair and said, "I'm not bragging. I just think it's funny that you want to take me out for dinner when I make more than you do."
Zhang pulled out his phone and opened the banking app.
He slid it across the table, saying, "Look for yourself."
The screen displayed his monthly salary deposit.
Yan Li gasped.
I took out my own phone and pulled up my pay statement.
As I did so, Zhang smirked confidently.
When I placed my phone next to his, his eyes widened and the color drained from his face.
Yan Li got up and excused herself, saying, "I'll leave you two alone to discuss your salaries."
Zhang picked up both phones and double-checked the figures on each one.
I leaned back in my chair and continued to stare at him, not wanting to break eye contact.
The initial shock wore off, and his expression turned thoughtful.
He slid his phone back into his suit pocket and nodded to himself.
After Yan Li left, the conference room felt smaller than it had before.
I could hear the faint hum of the air conditioning as it circulated the air.
I shuffled my papers on the table, pretending to organize them while stealing glances at Zhang, who remained frozen in place.
The silence stretched out between us, until he finally adjusted his tie and moved his chair closer to mine.
My heart rate picked up speed as I caught the subtle scent of cologne on him, a detail I hadn't noticed until now.
Zhang leaned in and whispered, "Kobayashi, there's something else you should know."
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by his sudden change in demeanor.
He hesitated for a moment before saying, "I'm actually here to recruit you for a project that could change everything."
