A few days later, New York City
"Sir, the case you've been waiting for has arrived!"
I heard one of my employees say as I walked into my office.
I immediately stopped in my tracks when I heard the news.
I turned to face him with a shocked expression on my face.
"What? Are you sure?"
I asked him with a skeptical tone.
He was one of the security guards in charge of the armoured trucks.
Today was the day when all the companies in New York City sent their valuables to their respective headquarters.
The security companies also had their fleets of vehicles transporting goods from various companies to their respective destinations.
Some security vehicles had disappeared while on the highway, and there were many security cameras that captured footage of them disappearing out of thin air.
The drivers who were driving alongside them also said the same thing.
They saw nothing before the vehicles vanished.
It was as if they had just evaporated into thin air.
This had happened to a few security companies around the city, and no one knew what was going on or who was behind it.
The CEO's Secret
I rushed to the surveillance room, my heart pounding with anticipation.
The guard led me to a console where multiple screens displayed different angles of the highway.
I leaned in, my eyes scanning each frame as the footage played.
The fog rolled in like a thick blanket, obscuring everything in its path.
Suddenly, one of the trucks flickered and vanished from view.
I rewound the tape, focusing on the moment before it disappeared.
There—a faint shimmer in the fog, almost imperceptible.
I paused the video and pointed it out to the guard.
The CEO's Secret
"A shimmer of light and fog," I murmured, the pieces falling into place.
The guard nodded, his face a mix of frustration and intrigue.
"Yeah, this case got us thinking it might be magic," he admitted.
"But our magic police departments are swamped."
I glanced at the paused screen, the missing truck's last known image frozen in time.
Of course , I thought the magic police department doesn't have enough officers. this means Maya would be too, busy for me to ask for any of her magical aid. I look at the highway a little longer the highway surrounded by plant life. i could go talk to the plant life in the surrounding area to see if they saw anything more than the humans. i didn't look to the security officer saying i'm going to be to go to the highway to talk to the plants. the officer look the bit confused, then a bolt of relationship hit him.Oh yeah you're also one of those magic people, the company says yeah we can pause traffic for a while so you can safely commune of nature.
The CEO's Secret
I arrived at the highway, the air thick with fog and the distant hum of paused traffic.
The plants swayed gently in the breeze, their whispers barely audible.
I knelt beside a cluster of wildflowers, closing my eyes to focus.
Slowly, their voices filled my mind, recounting the strange events they had witnessed.
A shimmering figure emerged from the fog, its presence causing the truck to vanish.
I thanked them and rose, brushing dirt from my knees.
I turned to the officer who had accompanied me, a newfound determination in my voice.
"The plants confirmed it—there's some kind of entity involved," I said, meeting his eyes.
He raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "An entity? Like a ghost or something else?"
The CEO's Secret
I nodded, my gaze drifting back to the fog.
The CEO's Secret
"Something like that... it could be more dangerous," I admitted, my mind racing with possibilities. "
The officer nodded, his expression serious.
" is this a case, DXM would solve?" the officer asked I said yes,
as i stood up a flicker of movement caught my eye.
I turned back, peering into the fog.
It seemed to be shifting, as if something was moving within it.
I narrowed my eyes, focusing on the spot where I had seen the movement.
Suddenly, a skull emerged from the fog, its grin stretching eerily wide. it was a hint of boredom.
The officer gasped, his hand trembling as he pointed at it.
I felt a chill run down my spine as the skull began to laugh, its voice echoing through the fog.
Even the wildflowers seemed to shudder in response.
I watched as the skull faded away, leaving behind an unsettling silence.
She nodded, her eyes filled with determination.
"Was that a ghost?" the officer asked, his voice shaking.
His eyes were wide with fear, and I could see his hands trembling.
"Let's not jump to conclusions," I said, her voice steady. " do you have a magic sensor on you ?"
The officer nodded, his hands still shaking as he handed me the device.
I took it from him, feeling its familiar weight in my hand.
"Let's see what we're dealing with," I said, pointing the sensor towards the fog.
The device hummed softly, its screen flickering with symbols.
"what do you think it is?" the officer asked.
I studied the readings on the sensor, my brow furrowed in concentration.
"It's definitely magical," I said, my voice firm.
"But we need more information before we can say for sure what it is."
The officer nodded, his eyes fixed on the sensor.
"We'll need to take this back to DXM HQ and run some tests," I said, standing up.
The officer followed me, his eyes darting nervously around the clearing. "We'll be back soon," I reassured him, glancing over my shoulder at the fog.
It seemed to be shifting again, as if something was moving within it.
The CEO's Secret
I felt a shiver run down my spine as I turned back to the officer.
"We need to move quickly," I said, my voice low and urgent.
The officer nodded, his eyes wide with fear.
I could see that he was scared, but he was also determined to help us solve this case.
He knew that we needed all the help we could get to figure out what was going on in this city.
As we made our way back through the fog, I couldn't help but feel a sense of unease.
The fog seemed to be watching us, its tendrils curling around us like grasping fingers.
I quickened my pace, my heart pounding in my chest. We finally emerged from the fog and made our way back to our car parked on the side of the road.
As we drove away from the scene, I couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over me.
We had solved one mystery, but there were still so many more out there waiting to be solved.
I glanced over at the officer beside me, his eyes fixed on the magic sensor in his hand.
He looked pale and shaken by what he had seen earlier, but he was still determined to help us solve this case.
I smiled at him reassuringly and he smiled back at me weakly.
The CEO's Secret
The officer dropped me off at DXM HQ and I made my way through the bustling corridors to O Brunette's office.
I knocked on the door and he called out for me to enter.
I took a deep breath and stepped inside.
"Sir, I've got something you need to see," I said, holding up the magic sensor.
O Brunette looked up from his desk, his eyes narrowing as he took in my appearance.
"What happened?" he asked, his voice firm.
I sat down in the chair in front of his desk and recounted everything that had happened in the fog.
I told him about the skull's eerie appearance and the strange readings on the magic sensor.
O Brunette listened intently, his expression growing more serious with every word.
"I wish you'd done more research with Lily," he said when I finished, referring to my wife's spirit.
"But from what you've described, it sounds like a demon, but this isn't something that a demon would do.
I nodded, considering his words.
The CEO's Secret
"What if it's following orders, it did seem bored when the skull first appeared?"
I suggested.
The CEO's Secret
O Brunette leaned back in his chair, his eyes fixed on me.
"That's a possibility," he said slowly.
"But we need more information before we can say for sure."
I nodded again, my mind racing with possibilities.
I stood up and walked over to the window, looking out at the city below.
The fog was still there, creeping closer to the buildings like a living thing.
I could see tendrils curling around the skyscrapers, as if it was searching for something.
I felt a chill run down my spine as I watched it move.
It was as if it had a purpose, a reason for being there.
But what that was, I had no idea.
I turned back to O Brunette, who had gotten up from his chair and was standing beside me at the window.
He was staring out at the fog, his face etched with concern. "It's spreading," he muttered, his eyes scanning the city below.
The CEO's Secret
"I think we're running out of time."
I nodded in agreement, gripping the magic sensor tightly in my hand.
We needed answers before the city was consumed by this strange fog and whatever lay within it.
I turned to O Brunette, determination in my voice.
"We have to act fast," I said.
