"Alright, that's it for today. I'll expect the changes to be made by tomorrow morning."
I said as I gathered my things and walked out of the conference room.
It was 7:30 PM and the sky was pitch black, the only light coming from the stars and the street lamps.
I walked down the stairs and out of the building, making my way to my car parked in the garage.
As soon as I reached my car, my phone rang.
I picked it up and saw that it was Papa calling.
"Hello Papa," I said as I got into my car and started the engine.
"Taashvi, where are you?"
Papa asked, his voice laced with a hint of worry.
"I'm on my way home, Papa. What's wrong?"
I asked as I put the car in gear and drove out of the garage.
"Nothing's wrong, beta. I just wanted to ask if you've eaten anything today," he said.
"No, Papa. I was too busy in office to have time for eating today," I replied.
"Okay, beta. Please make sure to eat something as soon as you reach home. And don't forget to take your medicine," he said, reminding me about the supplements I needed to take every day after my blood test reports came in negative.
The CEO's Fiery Bride
"Okay, Papa. I'll see you in a few minutes," I said as I drove out of the city and onto the highway.
The drive home was uneventful, the only sound being the music playing on my car's stereo.
As I drove, my mind wandered to the stack of legal briefs that were waiting for me tomorrow.
I knew it was going to be a long day, but I was ready for it.
After all, I was a workaholic.
I finally reached home and pulled into our driveway.
As soon as I got out of my car, Papa came out of the house and opened the door for me.
"Hello Papa," I said as I walked into the house.
"Hello beta. How was your day?"
Papa asked as he closed the door behind me.
"It was good, Papa. But I'm exhausted. I'm going to take a shower and then eat something," I said as I walked towards my room.
"Okay, beta. Please don't forget to take your medicine," he said as he followed me to my room.
The CEO's Fiery Bride
"Okay, Papa," I said as I entered my room and closed the door behind me. After taking a shower and eating something, I went downstairs and joined Papa and Shivank in the living room.
Shivank was lounging on the couch while Papa sat in his favorite armchair.
"Hey sis," Shivank said as soon as he saw me enter the living room.
"Hey bro," I replied as I sat down next to him on the couch.
"How was your day?"
Papa asked me as soon as I sat down.
"It was good, Papa. But it was very tiring," I replied.
"You need to take care of yourself, Taashvi. You're working too much," Papa said with concern etched on his face.
"I'm fine, Papa. Don't worry about me," I said reassuringly as I patted his hand that rested on mine on top of the couch armrest.
"I know you're fine, beta. But you need to take care of yourself too. You can't just focus on work all the time," Papa said gently.
"I know, Papa. And I will make sure to take care of myself from now onwards," I said with a smile as I hugged him tightly.
"Good girl," Papa said as he hugged me back tightly.
"Now let's talk about something else," Papa said after we broke apart from each other's hug.
"What else?"
I asked curiously.
"Shivank, did you tell her about the letter that came today?" Papa asked, glancing at my brother.
"Oh, right! Taashvi, you got a letter from that law firm in London," Shivank said, his eyes lighting up with excitement.
"A letter? What does it say?" I asked, feeling a sudden rush of anticipation.
The CEO's Fiery Bride
"I don't know. It's still sealed," Shivank said, his face falling slightly.
"Here, beta. You can open it," Papa said as he handed me the letter.
I took the letter from Papa and examined it carefully.
It was a thick white envelope with my name written in bold black ink.
I turned it over and saw that it was sealed with a wax stamp bearing the logo of the law firm.
I opened the envelope and pulled out the letter inside.
As I read through the letter, a smile spread across my face.
"Good news?"
Shivank asked, his eyes shining with curiosity.
"Yes," I replied as I folded the letter and put it back in the envelope.
"What is it?"
Shivank asked, his curiosity getting the better of him.
"I got selected for an internship at that law firm in London," I said, a sense of pride washing over me.
"That's great! Congratulations!" Shivank said as he hugged me tightly.
"Thank you," I said as I hugged him back.
"I'm so proud of you, beta," Papa said as he hugged me tightly.
"Thank you, Papa," I said as I hugged him back.
"I'm going to take a shower now," I said as I got up from the couch and walked towards my room. "Alright, beta. Don't forget to take your medicine," Papa said as I walked out of the living room.
"Okay, Papa," I replied as I closed my bedroom door behind me.
I walked towards my dresser and opened the drawer where I kept my medicine.
As soon as I opened the drawer, my eyes fell on a small photo of Mama that was lying on top of the drawer.
I picked up the photo and examined it carefully.
Mama looked beautiful in the photo, her smile lighting up her whole face.
I felt a pang of sadness wash over me as I looked at her photo.
I missed her so much even after all these years since she passed away when I was 14 years old and Shivank was 17 years old.
I put Mama's photo back in its place and took out my medicine from the drawer before closing it shut again. After taking my medicine, I went into my bathroom to take a shower.
The warm water felt good on my skin, and soon enough, I was feeling refreshed and ready to tackle whatever challenges lay ahead of me tomorrow.
The CEO's Fiery Bride
The next morning, I sat at my desk, the letter from London still fresh in my mind.
My phone buzzed on my desk, interrupting my thoughts.
I picked it up and saw that it was a call from an unfamiliar number.
I hesitated for a moment before answering it.
"Hello?"
I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
"Hello, Ms. Raghuvanshi," a polished voice said on the other end of the line.
"Who is this?"
I asked, feeling a sense of unease wash over me.
"I'm calling from a prestigious law firm in Mumbai," the voice replied.
"I'm not interested in any sales calls," I said, preparing to hang up the phone.
"Wait, Ms. Raghuvanshi," the voice said quickly.
The CEO's Fiery Bride
"I'm not selling anything. I'm calling to offer you a job."
I was taken aback by the sudden turn of events.
"A job?"
I repeated, feeling a mix of confusion and curiosity.
"Yes, Ms. Raghuvanshi. We've been following your work and are impressed with your skills and reputation," the voice said confidently.
"I'm not looking for a job," I replied automatically, still trying to process what was happening.
"But this is a high-paying job with great benefits," the voice persisted. "What kind of job?"
I asked, feeling a sense of curiosity creeping in despite myself.
"We're looking for a senior lawyer to join our team," the voice replied.
"And what makes you think I'm qualified for this position?"
I asked, feeling a sense of skepticism wash over me.
"As I mentioned earlier, we've been following your work and are impressed with your skills and reputation," the voice replied confidently.
"I appreciate your offer, but I'll need some time to think about it," I said finally, feeling overwhelmed by the sudden turn of events.
"Of course, Ms. Raghuvanshi. We'll be waiting for your response," the voice said before hanging up the phone.
I sat at my desk for a few minutes after the call ended, trying to process everything that had just happened.
A job offer from a prestigious law firm in Mumbai?
It was certainly unexpected, but also intriguing.
As I sat there contemplating my options, Shivank burst into my office with a big smile on his face.
