I stared at the piece of paper as if it might give me a different answer if I looked at it hard enough.
Ninth graders eat too much candy.
The candy machine had given me this same stupid message three times already.
It wasnât even a real riddle, just some lame statement that didnât even make sense.
I mean, all grades of school kids ate too much candy.
It wasnât just limited to ninth graders.
I shoved the paper into my pocket and gave the machine one last glare before turning away.
"Hey, Mia! You coming to lunch?"
My best friend, Jake, waved his lunch tray at me from across the cafeteria.
I grabbed the tray of food I had picked out earlier and waved back at him.
"Yep! Just a minute!"
I walked over to the candy machine one last time.
I wasnât giving up yet.
I put in another dollar and selected a piece of gum.
When the piece of paper popped out instead of my selected pink piece of Bubble Hubba, I wasnât surprised.
I pulled it out and unfolded it with a sigh.
What was the deal with this thing?
I looked down at the message at the same time as I grabbed a straw to put in my drink.
My eyes widened as I read the new message.
