My name is Michael Thompson.
I am 18 years old and still in high school because of my special needs.
I have two mean teachers, Miss Tippet and Miss Wilson; they would shame me, make me feel small, and belittle me because of my special needs.
But I have an awesome sister.
She is nice and sweet, not like those two teachers.
Her name is Ashley Thompson.
She is three years older than me and already in college.
She was the only one at the school who was nice and sweet to me.
One day, my sister asked me if I wanted to go to prom with her.
I said yes because I would love to go with her to prom.
The next day at school, Miss Tippet and Miss Wilson asked me if I had a date for prom.
I told them my date is Ashley Thompson.
They both laughed at me and shamed me in front of the whole class.
They told me that Ashley would never take a special needs boy like me to prom.
But I knew that wasn't true because she already asked me if I wanted to go to prom with her.
Then Miss Tippet asked me how was I planning on going to prom with her?
I told her my sister was going to come pick me up after she finishes putting on her makeup and fixing her hair.
Miss Wilson asked, "Is your sister crazy or something?"
I didn't answer that question because I knew she was just trying to get a rise out of me.

I just sat there at my desk quietly.
Study hall was the next period, and I sat there at my desk quietly, waiting for the right time to make my move.
Miss Tippet was at her desk grading papers.
Miss Wilson was standing over by the bookshelves organizing the textbooks.
I knew it was now or never.
I took a deep breath and pulled out the tutoring form that Ashley helped me fill out last night.
My hands were shaking as I walked up to Miss Tippet's desk and placed the paper in front of her.
She stopped grading papers and looked up at me with a puzzled look on her face.
Then she picked up the paper and started reading it.
The more she read, the redder her face got.
Miss Wilson walked over to Miss Tippet's desk and peered over her shoulder at the paper.
They both looked up at me with shocked looks on their faces.

Then they looked back down at the paper, exchanging glances with each other.
After a few minutes, Miss Tippet finally finished reading it.
She looked up at me with a smirk on her face, then tore the paper in half and threw it in the trash can beside her desk. I didn't say anything; I just pulled another copy out of my backpack and set it on top of her desk, then turned around and walked back to my seat.
The Bully Teachers
I sat back down at my desk and watched as Miss Tippet and Miss Wilson whispered to each other.
They were both looking at the second tutoring form that I had given her.
They were laughing and pointing at the paper.
Miss Wilson walked over to me, waving the paper in her hand.
"Michael, you can't seriously expect your sister to tutor you. She's not qualified," she sneered.
Miss Tippet came over and stood beside her, nodding in agreement.
"We're the professionals here," she said, "not some college student."
I sat there listening to them belittle Ashley's abilities.
She was just a college student, they said.
She wasn't qualified to tutor anyone, especially not someone like me with special needs.
Each word cut deep into my heart.
But the worst part was when they started talking about how embarrassing it would be for Ashley to have a special needs boy like me as her prom date. My hands clenched into fists under my desk as I listened to them go on and on about how I wasn't good enough for Ashley.

I couldn't take it anymore.
I stood up abruptly and grabbed my backpack from under my desk.
"I have had enough," I said, slinging my backpack over my shoulder.
"I'll be right back."
As I turned to leave, Miss Tippet called after me, "Where do you think you're going, Michael?"
I paused at the door and replied, "To call Ashley and tell her everything you've said."
Miss Wilson scoffed, crossing her arms, "And what do you think that'll accomplish?"
