Laya
She is a young woman caught in a dangerous world of mafia and crime. She is determined, vulnerable, and strongwilled. Laya finds herself drawn to Roy Darkmoor,a man haunted by trauma and struggling with diabetes. Despite his imperfections, she sees the beauty in him and the potential for a deep connection. She navigates this treacherous environment while trying to maintain her innocence and dignity, often finding solace in the boys who protect her.
Alex Dimarco
He is one of Roy's closest friends and confidants. He is straightforward, protective, and loyal. Alex provides support and guidance to Roy during difficult times, especially concerning Laya. He exhibits a strong sense of duty toward his friends, willing to intervene when they face challenges. His relationship with the others in the group is built on trust and shared responsibilities.
Kane Santoro
He is another member of Roy's closeknit group. He is optimistic, caring, and supportive. Kane often tries to lift everyone's spirits, especially Roy during his low moments. His positive attitude helps balance the group dynamic. He shares a bond with the others based on mutual respect and commitment to one another.
When I first met him, I knew he was broken.
I could see it in his green eyes, the way they darkened when he thought no one was looking.
I could see it in the lines of his face, the curl of his lip, the way his hand tightened into a fist before he loosened it.
I could hear it in his voice, the low, smooth pitch that slid over me like oil on water.
But I also saw something else there.
Something that made my heart beat just a little bit faster.
Something that made me want to reach out and touch him, to soothe the brokenness in him.
And maybe, just maybe, fix it.
He had five boys with him when we met.
Alex Dimarco, Kane Santoro, Lorenzo Alvarez, Koyl De Luca.
Each of them wore a ring on their fingers, a star etched into the gold.
They were part of the mafia, or so I thought.
And as I watched them move together, I realized they were more than that.
They were a family, and Roy Darkmoor was at their center.
"Roy," I whispered.
I followed him and his boys through the club, past the crowded dance floor and into a private lounge at the back.
The walls were covered in framed photographs, younger versions of them in different locations.
The rings were visible on their fingers in every shot.
My eyes landed on one photo in particular, and I couldn’t look away.
Roy was shirtless, his torso covered in tattoos that wound around his ribs and disappeared beneath the waistband of his pants.
I could see the outline of a diabetes pump at his hip, but it was the tattoos that had me transfixed.
They were intricate, swirling patterns that seemed to dance across his skin.
The other boys crowded around me, pointing out their favorite memories, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from Roy’s photograph.
When he noticed my stare, he slowly rolled up the sleeve of his shirt, revealing the same tattoos crawling up his arm.
"These marks," Roy said quietly, "they're not just ink; they're a map of every choice I've ever made."
Kane leaned in, his voice a low rumble, "And every scar we've earned together, right, Roy?"
Roy nodded, meeting my eyes with a steady gaze, "And now you know why I can't let anyone in who doesn't understand what it means to wear this ring."
The tension in the lounge thickened, and I stepped closer to Roy, drawn by the vulnerability in his expression.
The other boys exchanged knowing glances and quietly drifted away, leaving us alone in a bubble of privacy amidst the photo-covered walls.
Roy's fingers absently traced the ring on his hand, his eyes never leaving mine.
The diabetes pump at his hip beeped softly, breaking the silence.
He reached for my hand, hesitated for a moment, then gently placed it over his tattooed forearm.
The patterns felt raised under my fingertips as he guided my touch along each line.
"This one," he whispered, his voice hoarse with emotion, "this one represents the night we saved each other."
I looked up at him, my voice barely a whisper, "Saved each other from what, Roy?"
His eyes darkened, shadows flickering across his face, "From the darkness that almost swallowed us whole."
He paused, then added with a hint of vulnerability, "And maybe, just maybe, you can be part of that light now."
