I have a mom and a little sister.
I'm taking care of my little sister.
My mom works to support our family, and I take care of my little sister.
My dad died when I was seven and my little sister was five years old.
That day was the first time I saw so many flowers.
There were so many flowers in the funeral home, along with the smell of incense.
That smell has stayed with me since then.
I hate that smell.
It's a bad smell that reminds me of my dad's funeral.
I don't like going to funerals.
I don't like to see dead people, and I don't like to smell that bad smell.
My dad was very kind.
When he was alive, he would play with me every night and tell stories to me and my little sister until we fell asleep.
He would buy us toys and candy whenever he went to town on business.
He would call us every day to ask how we were doing and what we had for dinner.
The Boyfriend Effect
While cleaning the storage room, I found a dusty cardboard box.
I couldn't see what was written on it because of the dust.
I used a cloth to wipe away the dust, and when I saw the handwriting on the box, my hands began to shake.
The words "toys" were written in Dad's handwriting.
I opened the box, and inside was a stuffed giraffe wearing a red bow tie.
I remembered that this was the last toy Dad brought back from his business trip to Lyon.
He made a lot of giraffe noises while giving it to Sophia, making her laugh and giggle.
I held the toy in my arms, not knowing if showing it to Sophia would make her sad or happy.
After a moment's hesitation, I walked to her room and found her sitting on the floor drawing with colored pencils.
She looked up at me with those big eyes of hers, and I pulled the toy out from behind my back.

I knelt down beside her, my hands still shaking.
Her colored pencils scattered across the floor, and I saw that she was drawing what looked like our family.
She reached out her small hand to touch the toy, running her fingers over the worn fabric and straightening its crooked bow tie.
"This was from Papa," I said softly, watching her expression carefully.
She hugged the toy close to her chest, breathing in its musty scent.
"I remember," she whispered, surprising me.
"He made funny noises."
She giggled and mimicked Dad's exaggerated giraffe sounds.
My chest tightened as she stood up, still clutching the toy, and walked to her bedside table.
She placed the giraffe next to a framed photo of Dad, completing her drawing with a smile.
