"Hey bitch! Did you forget something?"
I heard Tessa's voice behind me.
I was walking down the hallway to get my books from my locker when she stopped me.
"No, I don't think so," I said, turning around to face her.
Tessa Martin is a bitch who always makes fun of me and calls me stupid.
She is in my grade and I hate her guts.
Well, actually, not just her but her whole group.
They are bitches who make fun of other girls.
They are the queen bees of the school.
"Oh, then why are you still here?"
She asked with her group behind her.
"You should be dead by now," she added.
"You see, stupid girl, you should have died with your mother," she said.
My eyes welled up with tears, but I won't show her that she hurt me.
"So, are you going to do something about it?" she asked, mocking me.
I just stood there silently staring at her with tears in my eyes.
"Oh, don't worry, I won't touch you. You're pathetic and dirty. I don't want to get my hands dirty," she said and rolled her eyes before turning around and leaving.
I wiped my tears silently while standing there until the hallway became empty.
Today was awful.
Something always happens every day since the day I moved here.
I'm always getting bullied by Tessa and her group.
I leaned on my locker while trying to steady my breathing.
The fluorescent lights were buzzing above me, and it made my head hurt.
I put my hands in my pocket and walked to my locker.
I spun the combination lock with shaky hands.
I had to try twice before I got it right.
When I opened the door, photos of Mom smiled back at me from the metal door of the locker.
I grabbed my backpack and shoved books into it without checking which ones I needed.
The zipper caught on my sweater, so I yanked it so hard that the metal teeth bent.
Tears blurred my vision as I slammed the locker door shut with all my strength, making the students nearby jump.
I needed to get out of this hallway.
It was suffocating me.
I walked to the nearest girls' bathroom and ducked inside.
I locked myself in the last stall and slid my backpack to the floor.
I sat on the closed toilet lid with my hands still shaking.
I pulled out my phone and scrolled through old photos of Mom and me at the beach last summer.
Her dark hair whipped in the wind as we both laughed at the camera.
The bathroom door creaked open, and I quickly wiped my eyes.
"Hey, Ava?"
Lily's gentle voice called from outside the stall.
