Scenario:The house was quiet, and I was stretched out on the couch, mindlessly watching TV. My sister, Jess, was away with our parents, leaving me to enjoy some rare alone time.
As I flipped through channels, I heard the front door open. Jaclynn, my sister’s friend, stepped in, wearing a white t-shirt and short shorts. She moved in front of the TV, completely blocking my view.
"Really? You didn’t care enough to invite me over while your family’s away?" she pouted, placing a hand on her hip.
"Watching TV alone when you could have a beautiful girl like me for company…"

Alex Turner
young adult, brother to Jess, average build with messy brown hair, laidback and slightly awkward.
Jaclynn Kingston
young adult, friend of Jess and Alex's sister, petite with curly blonde hair and a playful demeanor.
Jess Turner
young adult, Alex's sister and Jaclynn's friend, tall with straight black hair and a caring personality.
I was watching TV on the couch when I heard the front door open and then close.
The house had been quiet all day since Jess and my parents left, so I knew it wasn’t one of them.
I kept watching TV, not caring who it might be, until I stood up and saw Jaclynn, my sister’s friend, standing right in front of the screen as if I hadn’t seen her the day before yesterday.
"Uh… hey."
I said, taking a step back so I could see the TV around her.
She cocked her head to the side.
"Hey? That’s it?"
I hopped over the couch and landed on the floor with a thud.
"What do you mean?"
"You didn’t even say hi when I came in."
"Well… hi."
She shook her head and smirked at me.
"Why didn’t you invite me over while they’re away? You know I always wanted to get to know Jess’s big brother a little better."
She said ‘big brother’ in a way that made it sound like a huge lie.
I rolled my eyes.
"I’m not much older than you."
"Not much older? You’re like five years older," she said, making a face.
I guess she had a point there.
"So how long are you here for?"
"I don’t know. I was just bored at home and thought I’d drop by."
She kicked off her shoes and plopped down on the couch where I had been sitting just a minute ago.
She stretched out, putting her feet over the armrest.
I leaned against the wall, watching her scroll through her phone.
The TV droned on in the background.
Every once in a while, she’d look up at me with that knowing smirk on her face.
I wasn’t sure whether to join her or stay where I was.
I didn’t want to make it too easy for her.
Finally, she patted the empty space beside her and said, "Come on. Sit down."
My feet felt like lead as I crossed the room and plopped down beside her.
The couch cushion dipped under my weight, making me feel heavier than usual.
She turned to me, her eyes suddenly serious.
"Did Jess ever tell you why I really hang around here?"
I shook my head, caught off guard by the shift in her tone.
"No," I said, shifting uncomfortably.
She kept staring at me, her face unreadable.
She placed her phone on the coffee table in front of us and leaned forward.
I could feel her warm breath on my face.
I tried to look away but couldn’t.
The TV droned on in the background, forgotten.
I cleared my throat and swallowed hard.
"What do you mean?"
I asked in a hoarse voice.
She didn’t answer right away.
Instead, she inched closer until our knees were touching.
She smelled like vanilla perfume and something else I couldn’t quite place.
When I finally got up the courage to look up at her, she was biting down on her lower lip.
Her face was inches from mine, illuminated only by the dim light of the TV.
My palms were sweaty and I felt like I was going to pass out.
I opened my mouth to say something, anything, but couldn’t get the words out.
She shifted closer, her knee pressing harder against mine.
I could feel her hand hovering over my arm.
I froze when her fingers made contact with my skin.
It was like a jolt of electricity had shot through me.
I watched as her hand moved up my arm, her fingers trailing over my skin in a slow circle.
Just as she reached my shoulder, the room flickered once, twice.
We both looked up at the ceiling light.
Then everything went black.
The TV died with a soft whine.
Jaclynn’s sharp intake of breath cut through the sudden silence.
"Looks like the power's out," she whispered, her voice barely above a murmur.
I nodded, trying to ignore the pounding of my heart.
"Guess we’re stuck here in the dark together," she said with a hint of mischief in her tone.
The darkness seemed to heighten every sensation.
I could feel the warmth radiating off her body, even though we weren’t touching.
Her fingers continued their path up my shoulder to my neck, sending shivers down my spine.
I heard her breath catch when I shifted closer, the couch cushions dipping under our combined weight.
My hand found her waist, steadying myself as much as pulling her near.
The faint moonlight streaming in through the window highlighted her eyes, wide and searching mine.
For a moment, time seemed to stand still.
We hovered there, neither of us moving away.
Her curls brushed against my forehead when she tilted her head.
My heart pounded so loudly in my chest, I was sure she could hear it.
Then, in the quiet darkness, she whispered, "I've been waiting for this moment."
My hands trembled as I held her waist, the thin fabric of her t-shirt a poor barrier between my skin and hers.
The darkness made every touch more deliberate, more intense.
She shifted closer, one leg brushing against mine, her fingers still tracing patterns on my neck.
The moonlight streaming in through the window cast shadows across her face, making her eyes sparkle like diamonds.
My breath caught in my throat when she pressed her forehead against mine.
Time seemed to slow down.
The house was silent except for our quickened breathing.
Her curls tickled my cheek as she tilted her head, waiting.
I leaned in, closing the distance between us.
Our lips met softly at first, then grew bolder as she pulled me closer.
Her hands slid up my chest, the touch sending shivers through me.
I wrapped my arms around her waist, drawing her onto my lap.
The kiss deepened, her fingers tangling in my hair as we lost ourselves in the darkness.
Finally, we broke apart, both of us gasping for air.
She rested her forehead against mine, her breath warm against my skin.
I traced my thumb along her cheek, still trying to process what had just happened.
She caught my hand in hers, intertwining our fingers.
