I have to pee.
Not too bad at first, but getting worse by the second.
I really have to pee.
I don’t want to say it out loud because I don’t want anyone to know, but it gets harder and harder to hold it in.
"Excuse me," says the dragon.
"I think we’re here."
"Here?"
I look around and see a big wooden door.
Not a regular door—this one has a big iron knocker in the shape of a lion’s head, and hinges with stars and moons cut into the metal.
I like this house!
It’s weird and fun and interesting—like nothing I’ve ever seen before.
But I still really have to pee.
"I don’t see any bathroom," I say.
"Well, that’s because it’s not obvious," says the dragon.
"Few things in life are. Sometimes you just have to look harder."
"Harvard is not obvious. You have to work for it."
—Mom
I stare at the door.
It’s not going to open magically, like in Harry Potter movies I’ve seen.
I reach out and take hold of the big brass doorknob, turning it slowly.
Then I push the door open—and gasp.
Inside the room is a giant wooden slide, curving and twisting like a roller coaster.
A banister runs along the top of the slide, stretching from one end of the room to the other.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
I hurry toward the slide’s entrance, my bladder aching with every step.
The dragon follows behind, his claws clicking on the wooden floor.
At the top of the slide I grip the banister and peek down the twisting slope.
The wooden surface is smooth and shiny, like honey in the dim light.
I see tiny glowing stars embedded in the walls, and a few more in the ceiling above us.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
My legs squeeze together as another wave of pressure hits my bladder.
The dragon nudges me gently with his snout.
"Sometimes the fastest way down is the most fun," he says.
I grip the banister, my legs trembling from both excitement and the pressure in my bladder.
The dragon stands behind me, his warm breath on my back.
Looking down the winding slide, I see the wooden track curve and disappear into darkness.
My heart pounds in my chest as I lift my feet off the platform.
The smooth wood feels cool against my bottom as I begin to slide.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
Wind rushes through my hair while tiny stars streak past like comets.
I pick up speed, clutching the banister tighter as I spiral downward.
The wooden slide curves sharply left, then right.
My stomach flutters in my belly as the floor drops away beneath me.
My hands grow sweaty on the banister, but I don’t dare let go.
The dragon’s roar echoes behind me, but I can barely hear it over the whoosh of air in my ears.
My bladder protests with each bump and turn.
The star-speckled walls become a glowing streak around me.
The slide’s polished surface feels smoother now, and I notice my grip loosening naturally.
The momentum pulls me forward, urging me to let go.
"Just let it happen," the dragon's voice booms, sounding both amused and reassuring.
"But what if I can't hold it?" I shout back, panic creeping into my voice.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
"Trust me," he replies, "this slide has a way of taking care of everything."
My fingers tremble against the polished wood as his words echo in my mind.
The smooth banister feels slippery under my sweaty palms.
My bladder throbs painfully, and I wonder if I can really trust this magical slide.
I watch the glowing stars streak past, their light dancing across the curved walls.
The slide’s angle steepens, and my heart pounds faster.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
My grip weakens with each turn, my hands cramping from holding so tight.
The dragon's warm chuckle rumbles behind me as I struggle to keep hold.
When the slide takes another sharp twist, my fingers start to slip.
My fingers cramp painfully around the banister as another sharp turn sends me careening sideways.
The smooth wood feels slick beneath my sweating palms, and my arms shake from holding on so tight.
My bladder throbs urgently while the star-streaked walls spin faster around me.
The dragon's warm chuckle rumbles behind me as my grip starts to fail.
"Remember what I said about trust?" he calls out playfully.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
My cramped fingers finally give up their fight against the polished wood.
I gasp as my hands leave the banister, my body sliding faster without anything to hold.
The smooth track cradles me while I zoom through the starlit tunnel, my back pressed firmly against the curved surface.
Wind whips my hair as the slide carries me through each turn, my bladder throbbing with every dip.
I hurtle down the final stretch, my body pressed against the smooth wood as stars streak past in glowing trails.
The steep angle begins to decrease, and I feel the track widening beneath me.
My heart still pounds from the wild ride while my bladder protests every small bump.
The dragon's wings whoosh overhead as he glides beside me.
Ahead, I spot a large cushioned platform covered in sparkly fabric.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
The slide curves upward slightly at the end, lifting me into the air before I land with a soft bounce on the padding.
I stumble off the cushioned landing pad, my legs wobbly from the wild ride.
The dragon lands with a soft thud on the floor beside me, his scales shimmering in the starlight.
My bladder feels ready to burst after all the twists and turns.
I steady myself against the wall, taking small steps to avoid any accidents.
The dragon's tail sweeps across the floor, brushing away sparkly fabric scraps to reveal a wooden panel.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
He taps it with his claw three times, and a small brass doorknob emerges from the wall.
I stare at the brass doorknob jutting from the wall, my bladder throbbing with urgency.
The dragon nudges me forward with his snout, his warm breath tickling my neck.
My trembling hand reaches for the knob, fingers wrapping around the cool metal.
The brass feels smooth but heavy as I grip it, requiring both hands to turn it.
A grinding noise fills the air as ancient mechanisms click inside the wall.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
The panel shifts inward with a dusty creak, revealing darkness beyond.
I lean against the wall next to the open panel, crossing my legs tightly as waves of pressure surge through my bladder.
My hands tremble as I try to peek into the darkness beyond the doorway, but the pain makes it hard to focus.
Sweat beads on my forehead while I squeeze my thighs together.
The dragon notices my distress and lowers his head to my level, his golden eyes filled with concern.
"I really need to go," I whisper urgently, bouncing slightly on my toes.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
"I don't think I can hold it anymore."
The dragon nods, and with a gentle nudge, guides me through the doorway into the unknown.
I stumble through the doorway into darkness, my hands pressed against damp stone walls to keep my balance.
The dragon's warm breath follows close behind, providing the only heat in this chilly passage.
My bladder screams with each careful step on the cold floor, forcing me to pause and cross my legs tightly.
Small patches of luminescent moss dot the walls, casting a faint greenish glow.
The narrow corridor slopes downward, making each movement more challenging as I fight to hold it.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
I shuffle down the damp corridor, one hand pressed against my bladder while the other trails along the slimy wall.
The dragon's breath warms my back as I inch forward.
Through the green glow of the moss, I notice a small indent in the stone wall ahead.
My heart leaps when I see it's deep enough to be an alcove.
The pain in my bladder spikes, making me gasp.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
I take three wobbly steps toward the hidden space, my shoes scraping against the uneven floor.
I stumble into the alcove, my legs trembling as I press both hands against my aching bladder.
The dragon's warm breath follows me into the small space while I lean against the damp wall for support.
My muscles are giving out after holding it for so long.
A warm trickle runs down my leg as I lose control.
I try to stop it, but can't.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
The wetness spreads across my pants while tears form in my eyes.
The dragon moves closer, blocking the alcove entrance with his wing as my accident continues.
I lean against the cold stone wall of the alcove, my wet pants clinging uncomfortably to my legs.
Tears roll down my cheeks as I look at the mess I've made.
The dragon keeps his wing spread to shield me, but turns his long neck to face me with gentle eyes.
His scales shimmer in the moss-light as he lowers his head to my level.
My voice trembles and breaks as I wipe my face with my sleeve.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
I wipe my face with trembling hands while the dragon's wing shields me from the cold corridor.
His long neck stretches past me to examine the alcove wall, his golden eyes narrowing as he studies the wet stones.
Suddenly, his snout bumps against an odd-shaped crack in the wall.
When he presses it with his nose, I hear a grinding sound inside the stone.
The dragon steps back, pulling me gently with his wing as a section of stone slowly swings inward.
The Boy And The Magical Bathroom
Warm air rushes out, carrying a sweet, clean scent.
Beyond the opening lies a hidden sanctuary, untouched and inviting.
