When I first met her, I was working in a securities company.
It was a Saturday afternoon.
I was taking a bus home after finishing my shift.
As I got off the bus, I saw her standing at the bus stop with her friends, laughing and chatting.
She had long hair and wore glasses.
She looked very smart and beautiful.
I was immediately attracted to her.
After getting off the bus, I didn’t turn around and go home right away.
Instead, I stood there and watched her, pretending that I was waiting for the bus.
Ten minutes later, she finally left with her friends and continued on her way.
Before she walked away, she glanced back and saw me standing there.
She looked so surprised that I quickly lowered my head and avoided her eyes.
I didn’t know what came over me.
I had never stalked a girl before.
But this time, I couldn’t help myself.
I followed her all the way to her home in the nearby neighborhood.
The next day, I went to her home again and waited outside her door.
I didn’t dare to ring the bell or talk to her.
I just stood there for a while and then left.
I paced back and forth in front of her apartment building for a long time, holding the letter in my sweaty palm.
After three attempts to approach her door, I finally gathered enough courage to walk up the stairs.
My heart was pounding loudly as I reached the fourth floor.
I checked the apartment numbers one by one until I found hers.
The hallway was empty and quiet.
I took out the letter from my pocket and read it one more time.
It was a simple handwritten note, expressing how beautiful she looked at the bus stop and how I couldn’t stop thinking about her.
Just as I was about to slide the letter under her door, it swung open, and there she stood, looking startled.
"What are you doing here?" she asked, her voice a mix of curiosity and caution.
"I... I wanted to tell you that I can't stop thinking about you," I stammered, holding out the letter with trembling hands.
Standing before her open door, my hands tremble as I clutch the letter.
She looks at me with wide eyes, clearly startled by my presence.
"I... I saw you at the bus stop," I stammer, trying to find the right words.
"I followed you home."
Her expression shifts from surprise to concern.
"Why?"I take a deep breath and continue, "I couldn't stop thinking about you. I wanted to tell you how beautiful you looked that day."
She takes a small step back, still maintaining eye contact.
The hallway feels impossibly narrow, and sweat forms on my forehead.
I extend the letter toward her with both hands, bowing slightly.
"Please, read this," I say, my voice barely above a whisper.
She hesitates for a moment, then takes the letter from my hands.
"You know this is kind of strange, right?" she says, her tone softening just a bit.
"I know," I reply, my voice filled with earnestness, "but I had to take the chance to tell you how I feel."
After she takes my letter, I linger awkwardly in her doorway, unsure what to do next.
She begins reading the letter, her expression unreadable.
Suddenly, her phone rings, breaking the tense silence.
She glances at the screen and then back at me before answering it.
"Hello?" she says, her voice cautious.
I can hear a male voice on the other end, asking about her plans for dinner.
My heart sinks as I realize she might be dating someone.
She starts explaining to the caller about a "strange man" at her door, gesturing at me while holding the phone.
Panic rises in my chest as I imagine her reporting me to the police or telling her boyfriend about me.
I turn and walk away, leaving behind the letter and a piece of my heart.
