"Ouch!"
I heard myself say as I bumped into a hard body.
As I looked up, I saw the most gorgeous man staring back at me.
He had the most striking blue eyes I had ever seen in my life.
The man had curly brown hair and stood at 5'11".
He was wearing a white button-down shirt with the top two buttons undone, giving me a little glimpse of his tan chest.
His pants were a dark gray and looked like they were made of some kind of thin wool.
His shoes were black and shiny, and from the looks of them, they were expensive.
I would say he was in his mid-twenties, maybe a year or two older than me.
"Are you okay?" he asked as he steadied me with his hands on my arms.
I felt shivers run down my spine from his touch, and I couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like if he were to kiss me.
"I’m fine, thank you," I said as I looked down to see what I bumped into.
There was a small table with one chair and a tiny table in front of it.
On the tiny table was a cup of coffee and a muffin.
It looked like this guy was meeting someone here.
"I’m Jerry Schilling."
He held out his hand for me to shake.

I grasped his extended hand and noticed that his fingers were warm and a little rough, like he did hard labor.
His handshake was firm but gentle, and he held it for a second longer than necessary.
I found myself staring at our joined hands.
The café bustled around us as people ordered their morning coffee and pastries, but I only heard the sound of our breathing as I looked into his eyes.
"I’m Carly Lynn," I said as I pulled my hand away from his.

Jerry gestured to the empty chair across from his small table and asked if I would like to join him.
I looked around the crowded café for Ben; he told me to meet him here this morning for coffee and to discuss the plans for the day.
Not seeing him, I took Jerry up on his offer and sat down in the chair he offered me.
My shoulder bag slid off my shoulder and came to rest against the table leg.
I settled into the chair and placed my hands on the table, my fingers tracing the rim of my coffee cup.
The café bustled around us as people came and went, but with Jerry’s eyes fixed on me, it felt like we were the only ones in our own little bubble.
"So what brings you to this fine establishment this morning?"
Jerry asked, breaking the spell he had cast over me.
"My friend told me about this place. He said they have the best croissants in town."
I left out the part about him being here to meet me.
"Really? I just happened to find this place while exploring my new neighborhood," Jerry said as he leaned forward a little in his chair, showing me he was really interested in what I was saying.
The conversation flowed easily between us as we talked about our lives, jobs, and interests.
I couldn’t help but notice how his eyes seemed to darken as we spoke about our passions.
I found myself becoming more and more drawn to him.

As I looked up from my coffee, I noticed a familiar face walking past the window outside.
It was Liz.
She didn’t notice me sitting at the table with Jerry.
I wondered what she was doing here this early in the morning; she didn’t usually come into town until later. As I watched her disappear from view, I realized that Ben could be here any minute now.
"Carly, is everything okay?" Jerry asked, noticing the shift in my expression.

"Yeah, it's just... I was supposed to meet someone here," I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.
Jerry leaned back slightly, a curious look in his eyes. "Someone important?"
