I was a woman on a mission.
Specifically, my mission was to find a man who could appreciate a curvaceous, buxom, and downright muscular body.
I wanted love.
I wanted romance.
I wanted a man who would look at me and see beauty, not someone who would try to change me into a stick-thin pinup girl.
As I scanned the crowded bar, I couldn’t help but feel a twinge of doubt.
Would I ever find what I was looking for?
Maggie elbowed me from behind, her green eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Stop being so pessimistic," she chirped, her blonde ponytail bobbing behind her as she bounced up and down.
"I’m not being pessimistic," I protested.
"I’m just being realistic."
"Realism sucks," Maggie said flatly.
"Believe me, you want to be a dreamer. Especially when it comes to men."
I raised an eyebrow at her as she grinned at me, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Is this about Noah?"
I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Maggie had a love-hate relationship with my boyfriend.
While she thought he was great for me, she also loved baiting him whenever she got the chance.
"Heck no," Maggie said as she rolled her eyes.
"I just know you deserve someone amazing."
The Body Type
I scanned the bar’s occupants, my heart thumping against my ribs.
There were so many options, but which one was right for me?
My eyes landed on a man sitting alone at the bar, nursing what looked like a whiskey neat.
He had kind eyes and a strong jawline, and his dark hair was styled perfectly.
He looked up and caught my eye, and I felt a jolt of electricity run through me.
"Go talk to him," Maggie whispered in my ear, giving me a gentle push forward.
I took a deep breath and started walking towards the bar, my legs feeling heavy as if they were made of lead.
I dodged elbows and weaved around tight clusters of people, trying not to make eye contact with anyone else.
The distance to the bar seemed to stretch on forever, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was walking through quicksand. Finally, I reached the bar and gripped its polished edge for support.
Three empty stools separated me from the stranger, and I forced myself to keep walking, putting one foot in front of the other until I reached the stool next to him.

I touched my hair nervously, smoothing down any stray strands that had escaped from my ponytail.
I tugged at the hem of my dress, making sure it was still covering everything it needed to cover.
I turned to face the stranger, my heart pounding in my chest.
He looked even better up close, and his smile was warm and inviting.
He was wearing a navy button-down that complemented his dark hair perfectly, and his eyes were a deep brown that seemed to see right through me.
I opened my mouth to introduce myself, but before I could speak, something caught my eye.
A brilliant green and blue parrot perched on the man’s shoulder, its head tilted at an angle as it regarded me with curious eyes.
I hadn’t noticed the parrot from across the room, and its sudden appearance made me freeze in my tracks.
The bird cocked its head to one side, studying me intently, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.
The stranger’s eyes crinkled with amusement as he watched my reaction to his unusual companion.
"Don't worry, he doesn't bite," the man said with a chuckle, his voice smooth and reassuring.
"I'm Jake, and this is Captain," he added, nodding towards the parrot.

"Captain's got a knack for spotting good people," Jake continued, his eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that made my heart skip a beat.
He leaned closer, his cologne mingling with the bar’s ambient scents.
Captain the parrot bobbed his head in a rhythmic motion, as if he were dancing to an unheard beat.
The entire scene felt surreal, and I couldn’t help but wonder if this was some kind of dream.
Jake reached for his drink, his fingers brushing against mine in the process.
I felt a jolt of electricity at the contact, and my knees went weak.
His dark eyes held such warmth that I could get lost in them forever.
The bar’s lights seemed to dim and blur around us, leaving only Jake and me in a bubble of our own little world.
His voice sounded distant and echo-like as we chatted, but I couldn’t quite make out what he was saying.
Something felt off.
The parrot’s colors started to fade, and Jake’s face became hazy.

I blinked hard, trying to hold onto the scene, but it slipped away from me like sand between my fingers.
"Are you okay?" Jake's voice cut through the haze, pulling me back to reality.
"I... I think I need some air," I stammered, feeling a strange heaviness in my limbs.
"Let me walk you outside," he offered, concern etched on his face as Captain flapped his wings gently.
