I was ready to test my bodyswapper out.
I just needed someone to try it out on.
Looking over at my sister, who was sitting on the couch watching a kids programme, I thought about asking her to be my test subject.
She was the only person at home besides me, and I couldn’t very well test it on myself.
Thinking about it, I wondered if it was a good idea.
She had a low IQ and was obese.
Would her mind be able to handle the change?
And would her body be able to cope with the change from being overweight to slim?
Plus, she had a low IQ, so maybe she wasn’t the best person to ask.
What if she messed it up or something went wrong?
Then again, she was the only person here and I needed to test it out before letting my colleague Mark see it.
He was coming here later with another device we had been working on but hadn’t quite gotten to work.
Maybe I could test it out first before he saw it and then decide if I wanted him to see it or not.
If it worked, then I might as well let him see it.
If it didn’t work or something went wrong, then maybe I should rework it before letting him see it.
Deciding to test it now, I turned the TV off and woke Sarah up.
The Body Swapper
"Sarah," I said, and she blinked sleepily as the TV flickered off.
"What?"
She looked at me with sleepy eyes.
"I need your help with something important," I said, trying to sound casual.
"What is it?"
She asked, her eyes widening with curiosity.
"I have made a machine that can swap bodies. I need you to test it out for me."
I explained in simple terms so she could understand.
She nodded slowly, her eyes wide with wonder.
"Really? That sounds like something out of a movie."
"Yeah, well, it’s real. It’s over here."
I led her to the machine and adjusted the straps so they would fit around her arms and legs.
The Body Swapper
"Are you sure this will work?"
She asked, her voice small.
"Yes, of course. It won’t hurt or anything."
I assured her, though I wasn’t entirely sure myself.
Mark’s voice echoed in my head, telling me not to do this.
But I silenced the doubt and pressed the button.
The Body Swapper
The machine hummed to life and Sarah’s eyes widened as she looked at me, a mix of confusion and trust on her face.
Mark stood by, arms crossed, his frown deepening.
The room was filled with a soft glow as the machine began its work.
I could see Sarah’s body tense, her fingers twitching against the restraints.
My heart pounded in my chest as I watched the readings on the screen, each beep echoing my growing dread.
And then suddenly, something flickered across Sarah’s face, something unfamiliar.
"John," Mark said, his voice low and urgent.
"Are you sure about this?"
"Yes, Mark, I have to be," I replied, trying to mask my uncertainty.
"But what if it doesn't work? What if she gets stuck like this?"
Sarah's voice broke through, surprisingly calm, "I trust you, John. Just promise you'll fix it if anything goes wrong."
The Body Swapper
The machine hummed louder, the lights flashing faster.
I watched Sarah closely, her eyes fluttering shut, her body relaxing against the restraints.
Mark shifted uneasily beside me, his eyes darting between Sarah and the machine's flickering lights.
I held my breath as the process neared completion, my mind racing with possibilities and fears.
And then suddenly, a soft chime echoed through the room, signaling it was done.
Sarah's eyes opened slowly, her gaze taking in her new surroundings with a mix of wonder and disorientation.
Mark and I exchanged a glance of disbelief and awe.
The Body Swapper
Sarah blinked, her eyes wide with confusion.
I felt an unfamiliar heaviness in my limbs, my heart pounding in my chest.
Mark gasped, his eyes darting between us, taking in the reality of the situation.
My hands trembled as they explored this new form, fingers grazing over soft curves that were not mine.
Panic surged when my hand reached my crotch, encountering a void where there should have been familiarity.
Mark's voice broke through the chaos, urging calmness.
"John, it's okay. You're okay."
But I struggled to comprehend the magnitude of what had happened.
I was no longer myself, trapped in a body that was foreign and unfamiliar.
The Body Swapper
I stared at Mark, my mind reeling as I tried to make sense of this new reality.
My fingers fumbled clumsily over the machine's controls, desperate to reverse the swap.
Mark's voice was a steady anchor, urging caution and patience, but I couldn't shake the urgency to return to my own body.
As I tried to focus on the settings, a fog crept into my mind, obscuring what had once been clear.
Thoughts that had once flowed effortlessly now felt muddled and distant.
Panic surged when I realized my intellect was slipping away, replaced by confusion and uncertainty.
The Body Swapper
I blinked, trying to clear the fog, but it persisted.
Unfamiliar thoughts intruded upon my consciousness, unsettling and foreign.
I struggled to push them away, but they lingered, clouding my judgment.
Mark watched me closely, concern etched on his face as I stumbled towards the door.
My legs felt heavy and awkward, as if they belonged to someone else.
But a compulsion drove me forward, urging me to explore this new reality.
I needed to understand these unfamiliar impulses that now governed my actions.
Ignoring Mark's protests, I left the lab and headed next door.
Each step felt like a betrayal of my own body, but I couldn't resist the pull of this strange compulsion.
I knocked on the neighbor's door, my heart pounding with a mix of dread and anticipation.
The door creaked open, revealing a face that mirrored my own confusion.
