MidReal Story

The Bloodthorn Prophecy

Scenario:Fourteen year old high school freshman Emma is not your average varsity cheerleader. She is sometimes, but she also attends a youth group every Thursday night and she’s also very imaginative. Better yet, this typical night is about to take a drastic turn. Coming to her youth group from an exciting cheer practice for her high school’s first basketball game of the season, she finds out that everyone got frozen. Basically, Blakely, 8, Richard, 14, Trey, 10, Chloe, 12, Mikayla, 13, Kiera, 14 Angela, 15, Isabella, 13, Nevaeh, 11, Jace, 14, and Prince, 12 are under a pause for some unknown reason. Now, Emma is asked by the group leader, Dave, to try to unfreeze them when all of a sudden, the doorbell rings and on the youth group house’s porch is a cylindrical package, causing everyone to unfreeze. Nevaeh believes that it’s the new carpet for her mom but when Emma unrolls it too excitedly, she is curious when she sees the artwork on the carpet, realizing that it’s actually a tapestry. The artwork on the tapestry is of a temple with people holding spears, swords, and guns while rampaging the interior. Hiding in another area of the temple are seven people, five men and two girls. Walking in an opposite area outside of the temple are two other figures trying to negotiate the rampage. That night, Emma snuggles under the tapestry like a blanket, but is then visited by a wizard named Kaldor who brings her to the kingdom of Queodora, and once arriving, Emma doesn’t see Kaldor with her so she decides to go to the castle. Trying to find him, she comes across the same temple seen in the tapestry that’s behind the castle, shocked at how damaged it looked. Regaining her focus of walking to the tower, she is able to meet the Truthfinders of the Southern Wood. Led by the counterpart of Dave, Master Verdan, a tranquil sage who channels the flames of wisdom, After the conversation with the Truthfinders, Mr. Caelum, a tempestuous wizard with a fierce determination who battles for harmony, and Ms. Thérèse, a sophisticated bachelorette who passionately seeks to balance power and fairness, become weary of telling her about the tapestry because of provoking another tragedy similar to what is seen on there, but they tell her that it has something to do with Kaldor. Emma is able to find her youth group friends who heard the tapestry’s story before each one left and comes across Kaldor with Richard and Blakely who have the tapestry, to which Kaldor tells them that the tapestry’s story is about the times that he lived in as part of a group of peacekeepers known as the Noble Hearth, a sanctuary of peace who embrace the helpless. Since the ancient times, they have trained thousands of youths to find peace, even making them part of their group. Even through several conflicts, they were able to maintain their peace because they refrained from fighting like the warriors that fought for them. But one night however, they were betrayed and attacked by their own warriors under the order by a dark species known as the Bloodthorns because one of their members cursed them, and most of the peacekeepers were lost. But there was also a hooded figure marching into their temple and was also taking part in the attack. The figure resembled Kaldor, but was arrogant unlike him. Everyone learns the difference between the Kaldor and the hooded figure because Kaldor was trained by a master who had a strong connection to a magic element called the Elysian Warding, a divine shield from the Noble Hearth that protects against malevolent forces and was much gentler and supportive of him and his feelings, even admitting that he also helped him become a much wiser man than he was when he was Blakely’s age. That master was a wise and soothing sorcerer who brings peace to troubled hearts. The Noble Hearth was then dismantled and that caused the Bloodthorns to leave and never return, bringing peace to Queodora. However, what remains of the Bloodthorns are what the warriors that fought for them before betraying them turned into after the massacre. Dream eaters. When the dream eaters arrived, everything changed for the kingdom. After those visits, Emma decides for her and Angela to experiment on the question of “would the Bloodthorns return if the Noble Hearth returned?”. Kaldor is intrigued by this, telling her that curiosity is the compass that guides her to new horizons; a trial run, when undertaken with care, illuminates the path while ensuring her safety. Emma wonders who was in the Noble Hearth with Kaldor, to which he explains to her that besides him and Oran, he was friends with three people who are currently looking for him and there were ten who were always crazy but amazing like all of them were while keeping the peace. At the same time, Richard is struggling to find Blakely and to make sure that Chloe doesn’t succumb to darkness, even worse so as he starts coming across the first form of dream eaters, which are human bodies with gardening gloves for hands and creepy doll heads. Emma lands in the Emerald Forest and -. Emma then attempts to meditate but has another vision. She sees Richard after he was pulled over by Buddy the Koala and his crew after unintentionally insulting him. But then the Dream eaters third form arrives as ghostly figures of the Circle of Silver’s ancestors. He asks to leave with Pepper the Rhino and her crew, thinking that Chloe was pulled over by Shadow and his students and is now asking to leave with Jasper and his friends. Buddy refuses and leaves telling him not to follow. Richard starts to wander aimlessly, trying to find both Blakely and Chloe. He then hears a soothing voice behind him, leading him to turn around and see a spirit of a middle aged man before him. At first, he is frightened until the spirit, Oran, reassures him that he won’t hurt him. Richard asks Oran about Blakely and Chloe’s whereabouts, to which Oran says that Blakely is also trying to find him and Chloe when she saw him and Chloe might be in trouble. After falling asleep, Emma starts hearing voices in her mind, but she doesn’t recognize them, and when she wakes up she tries to envision what she heard to Kaldor but Emma becomes distracted when she sees that they ended up in the Singed Range. Emma closes her eyes and tries to meditate but sees a vision of Richard treading through the castle and he comes across the fourth form of the dream eaters. This time, they are ghostly spirits of beautiful women someone he thinks is Chloe, but having succumbed to the darkness, not realizing that it is a replica of her named Skugga, a shadowy warrior who wields a gleaming sword forged in the depths of despair. Skugga then starts moving invisible boulders on his hands, causing him to tell her that this is not who she truly is. A duel ensues between the two with Richard being defeated. Blakely then arrives at the scene and is horrified after finding Richard unconscious and tries to revive him. She then hears Skugga’s voice and thinks it’s Chloe. Now the two duel but then Skugga morphs into the hooded figure seen in the tapestry. When Blakely removes the hood from him, his face is revealed to be Soren, a lithe figure in shadows who wields power with a flick of his wrist. After waking up from the vision of Soren, Emma and Kaldor land on a beach where Asheri is located in the ocean. After seeing the ocean, Kaldor is then reminded of the peacekeepers he was friends with when they were crazy with him as well. Just then, another former peacekeeper arrives out of the water after hearing him and it was Serenaya, a peacekeeper with a haunting face who charms allies with her friendly disposition. Realizing she was in the Noble Hearth temple after the heart of Soren turned into a necklace, Emma sees the aftermath of the damage that was caused and almost faints. Trying to find Kaldor, Emma becomes chilly and weak and collapses on the floor, only to be picked up and cradled in Oran’s spirit’s arms. She asks him where Kaldor is and learns that he was turned into an ice statue. Oran then senses Emma suffering from pneumonia caused by drained energy. Through her wheezing, Emma tries to ask Oran if once she recovers, she can rescue Kaldor from his current state. Oran comforts her, telling her that she might be able to, reminding her of how much stronger she is than she thinks. Emma unfortunately wakes up back in the real world, believing that the adventure was a dream. She tries to find Kaldor after returning home from school and cheer practice for the game that’s tonight, knowing that her classmates, teachers, teammates, and coaches would be intrigued, but she can’t seem to. Emma starts to feel herself back in Queodora cradled in Kaldor’s arms with the tapestry draped over her, moments after he is told by the ghost of Oran that Richard entered the temple and saw the aftermath of the massacre of the Noble Hearth. Waking up to Kaldor comforting her, Emma then questions about Oran and Kaldor tells her that he was his master and he helped him become a much wiser man than he was when he was a kid. Emma also becomes stricken with disbelief when she also hears that Oran was also one of the casualties of the massacre of the Noble Hearth, begging to see his spirit again. Kaldor soothingly reassures her that she might be able to, even telling her that all this time, he was passing down what he learned from Oran to Emma as of his last words after he was able to drive the Bloodthorns out after Oran was singled out, even remembering how proud he was for protecting their fellow friends and for bringing balance to the Elysian Warding. What becomes really intriguing is that Oran was also Kaldor’s biological father, to which Kaldor didn’t know because he first met him a few weeks after he was born. The moment he knew was when he was seven years old and tells Emma that the voices that she heard when she was asleep before waking up in the Singed Range was one of Kaldor’s memories that sounded like what she describes after waking up as him when he was a kid after freed a couple of boys who didn’t get along with each other from detention at a middle school along with who he describes as one of the peacekeepers he was friends with. After telling them to run before the teacher arrives, the friend and a sixth grader who wasn’t in detention they encounter while running tells Kaldor that his father, someone who looked exactly like and had the same gentle demeanor as Oran to which Kaldor didn’t know was really Oran, had successfully recovered from a surgery and was able to arrive and witness Kaldor’s heroic deed. Kaldor ran through the school to find him and saw Oran, who revealed to him that he was his father when Kaldor heard him tell him that he was proud of him and called him his son. The reason Kaldor didn’t meet Oran until that time was because Oran had to help his sister and Kaldor’s aunt take care of her newborn daughter while his brother in law was on a mission to share the teachings of the ancestors. Before that, when he was little, his heart was duplicated and it gave birth to Soren a week before the Noble Hearth massacre, making Soren Kaldor’s alternate form. However, Kaldor was still able to feel love and compassion. After finding Richard and Blakely, Emma comes to discover that Chloe wasn’t really turned into Skugga, but was kidnapped by Soren and had her heart duplicated and thrown into a cauldron and what came out was Skugga. Blakely does find Chloe’s repaired heart on the floor as well as the capsule that Chloe’s trapped in and goes to return the heart to her, ultimately freeing her. Later on, Emma returns to Kaldor, and finds Oran’s spirit, to whom she tells him that he was one of the best mentors but also a very loving father and will always be. After a group hug with Oran, Kaldor, and Emma, both Kaldor and Emma visit the area in the temple where Oran lost his life and Kaldor gives Emma a moving meditation to help her process seeing what happened.

"Would you like to stay for dinner?"
That was the question the youth group leader, Dave, had asked me as I was about to leave.
I shook my head.
"No, thanks."
"Yeah, okay. Well, anyway, thanks for coming out tonight. I’ll see you next week, right?"
I nodded and smiled.
"Yeah."
"Great. Have a good night, then."
And with that, I left the youth group meeting and headed to my car.
It had been a pretty typical night for me.
I had gone to my first period class, then my next few classes, and then the last one was free so I went to the locker room and changed into my practice clothes.
After that, I went to the gym and had our first practice for our high school’s first basketball game of the season.
We were allowed to have fourteen year olds on varsity this year, and since I was a flyer, I could do it.
I was pretty much a pro at it.
I mean, I had been doing it since I was ten years old.
After practice, I came here to the youth group meeting.
It wasn’t typical for me to get a package delivered while I was here, though.
Not that it was unheard of either.
The Bloodthorn Prophecy
I slide into the driver’s seat and glance down at the cylindrical package resting on the worn fabric of my passenger seat.
The parking lot’s fluorescent lights cast strange shadows through my windshield, making me feel like I’m in some kind of movie.
My fingers trace the brown paper wrapping, feeling the edge where the tape holds it together.
I hesitate for a moment, remembering how the last package had frozen everyone in place.
But my curiosity gets the better of me.
The Bloodthorn Prophecy
I tear at the paper slowly, methodically, letting each piece fall into my lap.
As the last layer of paper falls away, a small, ornate box is revealed.
I open it and find a note inside, written in hurried script.
"Meet me at the old bridge tonight," it reads, "I have answers about your father."
I sit there in my parked car, staring at the note under the dim overhead light.
The paper feels rough against my fingertips as I read it again, searching for any clues that might be hidden in the messy handwriting.
Through my windshield, I can see the silhouette of the old bridge in the distance, its weathered boards barely visible against the darkening sky.
I check my phone for what feels like the hundredth time, but there are no messages from Mom asking where I am.
I think about her sitting alone at the dinner table, staring at Dad’s empty chair across from her.
The Bloodthorn Prophecy
I fold up the note carefully and slip it into my jacket pocket, gripping the steering wheel tightly with both hands.
Just as I start the engine, my phone buzzes with an incoming call.
"Hey, it's Dave," his voice crackles through the speaker, "I saw someone leaving a package for you earlier. Everything okay?"
I hesitate, then decide to trust him. "Dave, do you know anything about my dad's disappearance?"
