I am Seong, a half Korean and half American boy.
I am currently in my first year of high school.
I take care of my little sister Emily by myself.
I do not have much trust in people because of my past experiences.
I am also shy, especially around girls.
I try to avoid them as much as possible.
But during break times, I focus on studying rather than socializing.
I think that is the reason I am the top student in my grade.
Free time is precious, and I do not want to waste it.
Studying makes me feel like I can escape from reality even for just a while.
So every free time I have, I utilize it well by studying.
After school, I work at a cafe to earn some money.
My parents are rarely home and when they are, they just give us money and leave again after a day or two.
They provide us with enough allowances, so we are okay without their supervision.
But sometimes, I wish they were always here to take care of us rather than myself.
I feel so stressed being the one in charge of taking care of myself and my sister.
But Emily is really mature and easy to take care of despite her young age.
The Billionaire's Secret Daughter
I walk down the familiar route to the cafe, my backpack heavy with textbooks.
The afternoon sun beats down on me as I check my phone for the time.
Still thirty minutes until my shift starts.
Perfect timing.
Inside, the cafe is bustling with the after-school rush.
I nod to my manager and head to the back room to change into my black apron.
I check my reflection in the mirror, making sure I look presentable.
The routine is comforting: clock in, wash hands, tie apron strings.
Through the kitchen window, I spot the usual crowd of high school students.
My heart skips a beat when I notice a familiar figure at a corner table, reading a book.
The Billionaire's Secret Daughter
Sunny hasn't seen me yet.
Through the kitchen window, I watch her absently stirring her latte, the cup untouched.
Her braids fall forward as she leans into her book, completely absorbed.
I gather my courage to go take her order for a refill.
Grabbing my notepad and pen, I push through the swinging door into the cafe area.
Just then, an orange tabby cat leaps through the open window beside her table.
The Billionaire's Secret Daughter
The cat lands directly on Sunny's book, sending her full cup of coffee splashing across the table and onto her white dress.
She jumps up with a startled yelp, nearly knocking over her chair.
I rush over with napkins, but as she looks up, our eyes meet, and everything else fades away.
