Shane Weber
He is a former orphan who was raised in foster care, discovering he is the heir to a multibillion dollar fortune. He is resilient, sarcastic, and determined. Shane faced immense poverty and hardship but never gave up. His life took a drastic turn when his adoptive parents kicked him out due to financial struggles. His exgirlfriend left him for someone richer. Despite criticism and judgment, Shane inherits the wealth, vowing revenge and social climb.
Grandfather
He is Shane’s wealthy grandfather who left him his entire estate. He is wise, secretive, and protective. Grandfather showed kindness to Shane by taking him in as a child and providing for his needs anonymously through gifts. Only revealing the extent of his generosity after his death, Grandfather’s actions ultimately changed Shane's fate from poverty to wealth, giving Shane the means to seek revenge on those who wronged him.
Penelope
She is Shane's exgirlfriend who left him for another man due to financial reasons. She is selfish, materialistic, and shallow. Penelope valued Shane only for his potential wealth, discarding him as soon as she found someone richer. Her relationship with Shane was marked by her constant criticism and desire for luxury, ultimately leading to their breakup and failure of their future plans.
I was an orphan, a poor boy with no one to care for me.
I was raised in foster care, hopping from family to family until I aged out of the system at eighteen.
Then, on my own, with no money or support, I had to make my way in the world.
It wasn’t easy.
In fact, it was downright hard.
But I never gave up, and now, seven years later, my life was about to take a drastic turn… not once, but twice.
First, my girlfriend left me for another guy.
She claimed it was because he had a better job, could provide her with a more luxurious life.
I knew it was because he was richer… but little did she know, my life was about to change in ways she couldn’t even imagine.
And second, well… I just found out I’m filthy rich.
No one is more shocked than I am.
My parents were wealthy when they had me adopted by another family.
They were smart and made investments that would grow over time.
They were set to be millionaires by the time I turned eighteen and went off to college.
But my parents didn’t want to be bothered with raising me themselves, nor did they want to give up their lifestyle for a kid.
So, they adopted me out to a family that couldn’t afford to give me much of anything.
I grew up in a small, two-bedroom house with hand-me-down clothes and barely enough food to eat.
I never knew my biological parents were rich until now, when I received a letter from their lawyer.
They’re dead, and they left me everything.
I sit in my newly acquired penthouse office, staring out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the city skyline below.
The leather chair feels foreign against my worn jeans, and I can’t help but wonder if I’ll ever get used to this life.
My phone buzzes on the desk, and I glance down at the screen.
Another message from Penelope.
She’s heard the rumors about my inheritance and wants to "explain everything."
I delete the message without reading it all the way through.
What could she possibly say to make things right between us?
Opening the top drawer of my desk, I pull out an old photo of the two of us taken at the carnival just weeks before she left me for another man. We’re standing in front of a Ferris wheel, our arms wrapped around each other’s waists and big smiles on our faces.
But now, looking at her smile, it seems fake somehow.
I crumple the photo in my hand and toss it into the waste bin beside my desk.
Pressing the intercom button, I speak into it.
"Send in my financial advisor," I tell my secretary.
I watch as Thomas Harrison strides into my office, his polished shoes clicking against the marble floors that I’m still not used to.
He’s dressed in a suit that looks like it was tailored specifically for him, and he carries himself with an air of confidence that I can only hope to achieve someday.
"Good morning, Mr. Weber," he says, setting down a stack of papers on my desk.
"These are some investment portfolios that I think you’ll find interesting. They’re a mix of high-risk and low-risk investments, and they should help you diversify your portfolio."
I nod, scanning the documents.
There are stocks, bonds, offshore accounts, and even a few real estate opportunities.
The numbers on these papers make my head spin.
Just last week, my bank account was empty.
Now, I have more money than I know what to do with. "I also wanted to talk to you about your current financial situation," Harrison continues.
"From what I understand, you inherited $500 googol from your grandfather. Is that correct?"
I nod again, feeling a little overwhelmed by the sheer amount of money we’re talking about.
"That’s right," I say.
"Well, I think we can turn that $50 billion into $100 billion in no time," Harrison says with a smile.
I sit back in my chair, listening to the hum of the air conditioning as I scribble notes on a notepad.
I’m thinking about starting a tech startup, something that will revolutionize the way people live their lives.
I jot down potential names for the company, as well as some ideas for how it could be structured.
My phone buzzes again, and I glance down to see another message from Penelope.
I ignore it and keep writing.
After a few minutes, I look up at Harrison.
"What do you think about investing part of my inheritance into this startup?" I ask him.
He nods thoughtfully.
"I think that’s a great idea," he says.
"With the right business plan and a bit of luck, you could turn that $50 billion into $100 billion in no time."
I smile, feeling a surge of excitement at the prospect of building something from scratch.
"Let’s do it," I say, standing up and extending my hand to Harrison.
He shakes it firmly, and then turns to leave.
