It had been a tough day at work for Erin, but fortunately, her husband was waiting for her at home and was eager to take care of her in every way he could.
Erin Thompson
resilient, and determined. Erin faces challenges at work, including dealing with a difficult patient and her demanding boss. Despite the stress, she finds solace in her loving relationship with her husband, who supports her through tough days. Her bond with him provides comfort and strength, helping her navigate the demands of her job.
Dr. Mitchell
strict, and authoritative. Dr. Mitchell pushes Erin to perform well under pressure and expects high standards from his staff. Despite his tough demeanor, he acknowledges Erin's skills and dedication to her job.
Jason Thompson
protective, and passionate. Jason provides emotional support to Erin after a difficult day at work. He is attentive to her needs and offers comfort through intimate gestures. His love for Erin is evident in his actions, as he prioritizes her wellbeing and helps her relax after a stressful day.
I breathed in deeply and closed my eyes for a few seconds to calm myself down before I opened the door and stepped out of the lift.
I knew that I had to put on a brave face for my patients, no matter how tough my day was going.
I walked briskly down the corridor to Mr. Johnson's room, who was still complaining about his medication.
I smiled brightly when I entered the room and saw him sitting on his bed with a scowl on his face.
"Good evening, Mr. Johnson. How are you feeling now?" I asked.
He looked at me intensely before he responded.
"I am still feeling unwell and I do not appreciate the fact that you people changed my medication without my knowledge," he said.
"Medication?"
I repeated.
"I did not receive any information from Dr. Mitchell about changing your medication, sir. However, I will check with him now," I said and turned to leave the room.
"Wait!" he called me and I turned around to face him.
"May I know your name, young lady?"
He asked.
"My name is Erin and I am a nurse in this hospital, sir," I replied.
"Erin? That is a nice name. I am sure that you are a nice person and that is why I am asking you to please help me to get the right medication for my illness," he said.
I nodded and hurried out of his room to the nurses' station.
I did not know what Mr. Johnson was talking about.
He was the only patient who had been given a different medication by Dr. Mitchell.
I quickly sat at my desk and pulled up his chart on the computer.
I scanned through his recent orders, but I did not see any changes in his medication.
I reached for the phone and paged Dr. Mitchell.
Lily walked by and saw me frowning at the screen.
She paused at my desk and leaned over my shoulder to look at the screen as I dialed the extension.
The phone rang three times before Dr. Mitchell's gruff voice answered.
"Dr. Mitchell, this is Nurse Erin. I have a patient who is claiming that you changed his medication without his knowledge," I said.
There was a long pause on the other end of the line.
Lily stood beside me, her eyes wide with concern.
I could see the worry etched on her face as she peered at the screen, which still showed Mr. Johnson's original medication orders.
"I haven't authorized any changes," Dr. Mitchell said finally, his voice firm and decisive.
"Who told him otherwise?"
I explained Mr. Johnson's claims to Dr. Mitchell, scanning through his recent visitor log on the computer as I spoke.
"Keep him on his current dosage. I'm heading there now," Dr. Mitchell interrupted, his voice sharp with alarm.
I hung up the phone, feeling the weight of something far more serious than a simple misunderstanding.
I got up from my chair quickly and hurried down the stark white hallway, my shoes squeaking against the polished floor.
I reached Mr. Johnson's room in a few seconds and peered through the doorway to see him sitting upright in his bed, anxiously fiddling with his IV line.
My heart raced as I watched him, knowing that something wasn't right about this situation.
I checked the current medications hanging on the IV pole, which matched what was on his chart.
I pulled up a chair beside his bed and sat down, trying to reassure him that Dr. Mitchell was on his way to discuss his concerns.
As I sat there, the unsettling realization dawned on me that someone else had been meddling with his care.
