I don’t like the way Jason is looking at my wife.
He has flirted with her from the time he met her and I don’t like it one bit.
I know Mia loves me and would never do anything to hurt me but sometimes I wish Jason would stop pushing so hard.
"Baby."
Mia squeezes my hand and I am looking at her.
"What?"
"You’ve been quiet all night. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah, everything is fine, Mia. I was just thinking."
"You were thinking about what?"
I look around the table and see that we are being watched.

I give her a kiss on the cheek and she smiles.

Jason stands to refresh Mia’s drink.
Something in me snaps and I grip my glass so tight that my knuckles are white.
The room feels like it is closing in on me and all I can hear is the sound of the people laughing and talking around us.
I can’t take one more minute of watching this asshole orbit around my wife.

His hand rests on the doorframe, creating a barrier between us.
The party noise fades into background static as I focus on his smug smile.
Mia’s fingers intertwine with mine, her grip tightening.
Before I can respond, she looks directly at Jason, her voice clear and confident, "My husband and I are leaving together."
With that, she turns to me and I guide her through the doorway.
My hand rests protectively against her lower back, the warmth of her body a reassuring presence as we step out into the night.
The cool breeze hits us, carrying away the stuffy atmosphere of the party.
Behind us, Jason lingers in the doorway, his face lit by the light from inside, but I don’t look back.
Instead, I focus on Mia beside me as we walk down the concrete steps.
Her heels click against the pavement until she stumbles slightly on the last step.
I steady her with both hands on her waist, drawing her closer to my side.
The street lamps cast long shadows as we make our way to the car, leaving Jason and his smirking face behind.
At the car, I open her door first and watch as she slides into the passenger seat.
