Shane Weber
He is a former orphan who was raised in foster care, discovering he is the heir to a multibillion dollar fortune. He is resilient, sarcastic, and determined. Shane faced immense poverty and hardship but never gave up. His life took a drastic turn when his adoptive parents kicked him out due to financial struggles. His exgirlfriend left him for someone richer. Despite criticism and judgment,Shane inherits the wealth, vowing revenge and social climb.
Penelope
She is Shane's exgirlfriend who left him for another man due to financial reasons. She is selfish, materialistic, and shallow. Penelope valued Shane only for his potential wealth, discarding him as soon as she found someone richer. Her relationship with Shane was emotionally distant, and she never truly cared for his struggles or past. Her decision to leave highlights her superficial nature and contributes to Shane's emotional turmoil.
Unnamed Adoptive Parents
They are Shane's adoptive parents who kicked him out when he was seventeen. They are cruel, heartless, and selfcentered. The parents viewed Shane as a means to an end, using his presence only for social prestige. Their callousness is evident in their decision to abandon Shane during his most vulnerable time, revealing their true nature as they seek external validation through his inheritance.
My name is Shane Weber, and I've led a pretty shit life if you ask me.
I was an orphan, raised in foster care with no family to speak of.
No relatives stepped forward to claim me, and for good reason—I had no one.
When I turned eighteen, I aged out of the system.
I had nothing—no money, no education, and no prospects.
I had to work multiple jobs just to survive.
Even then, it was barely enough.
I did my best with what I had, but it wasn't much.
I never had much faith in the future.
I didn't think things would ever change.
And even if they did, why would they?
What was so special about me?
Absolutely nothing.
I was just another face in the crowd.
A statistic at best.
I sit in my dingy studio apartment, staring at the official-looking envelope that arrived this morning.
The return address says "Morton & Associates, Legal Services."
My hands shake as I tear it open, wondering what it could be.
Another debt collection notice?
A court summons?
I pull out the letter and begin to read.
It's addressed to me, but not by my name.
Instead, it's addressed to "Mr. Shane Weber, grandson of Theodore Weber."
My heart pounds in my chest as I read the words over and over again.
Grandson of Theodore Weber?
I've never heard of him before.
I don't have a grandfather.
I don't have any family at all.
So who is this person, and why are they contacting me now?
I continue reading the letter, trying to make sense of it all.
It seems that Theodore Weber has passed away, leaving behind a large inheritance.
And according to the letter, I am his sole beneficiary. I can't believe what I'm reading.
Me?
An heir to a fortune?
It seems too good to be true.
But the letter looks legitimate enough.
It's written on fancy paper with a formal font and everything.
There's even a return address and contact information at the bottom of the page.
I decide to do some research on Morton & Associates to see if they're a real law firm or just some scam artists trying to get their hands on my money.
A quick internet search reveals that they are indeed a legitimate law firm with offices located in downtown Los Angeles.
They specialize in estate planning and probate law, which makes sense given the context of the letter.
I decide to call them and schedule an appointment to discuss this further.
After all, I need to know more about my supposed inheritance and what it entails. The phone rings several times before someone answers.
"Hello?"
"Hi there," I say nervously.
"I received a letter from your office today regarding an inheritance matter. Is this Morton & Associates?"
"Yes it is," replies the woman on the other end of the line.
"How may I assist you?"
"Well," I explain, "I'd like to schedule an appointment with one of your attorneys if possible. My name is Shane Weber."
"Ah yes," she says after a brief pause.
"I believe we have a file for you here somewhere. Let me check on that real quick."
She puts me on hold while she searches for my file.
I pace back and forth in my cramped living room while classical music plays through the receptionist's hold message.
Five minutes pass.
Ten.
My phone battery is down to 15%.
Just when I think I've been forgotten, a different voice comes on the line.
This one is older, male, and sounds very professional.
"Hello Mr. Weber," he says gravely.
"My name is James Morton. I'm a senior partner here at Morton & Associates."
I sit down on the couch, suddenly feeling nervous again.
"Hi there," I reply, trying to sound calm.
"Thanks for calling me back."
"Not at all," he responds kindly.
"I understand you received a letter from us regarding your inheritance?"
"Yes," I confirm.
"That's right. But I have to admit, I'm a little confused about the whole thing. According to the letter, I'm supposed to be some rich guy's grandson or something."
"That's correct," he replies matter-of-factly.
"Theodore Weber was indeed your grandfather. Unfortunately, he passed away recently without ever getting the chance to meet you in person."
I'm stunned.
"So wait a minute," I say slowly.
"You're telling me that my real grandfather has been alive all this time? And he only just found out about me now?"
"That's right," he confirms.
"Your grandfather spent decades searching for you through private investigators and other means. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after his death that we were finally able to locate you." "Wow," I breathe, trying to process everything he's telling me.
"So what happens next?"
"Well," he explains patiently, "we need to schedule a meeting with you in person to discuss the details of your inheritance. We'll go over all the paperwork and answer any questions you may have."
"Okay," I agree hesitantly.
"When were you thinking?"
"How about tomorrow afternoon?" he suggests.
"We can meet at our office downtown."
"Sounds good," I reply, making a mental note of the appointment time and location.
"Thank you for your help, Mr. Morton."
"You're welcome," he replies kindly before hanging up the phone.
I sit there for a few moments longer, trying to wrap my head around everything that just happened.
It's still hard to believe that I have a real family out there somewhere - people who care about me and want to help me succeed in life. The next day, I arrive at Morton & Associates' office building promptly at 2 PM as scheduled.
The building itself is a gleaming glass and steel tower that stands out among the surrounding structures.
I can't help but feel a little intimidated by its grandeur as I step inside the lobby.
The receptionist looks up from her desk and eyes me skeptically, no doubt taking in my worn jeans and scuffed shoes.
"Can I help you?" she asks coolly.
"Hi there," I reply nervously, fidgeting with my hands.
"I'm here to see Mr. Morton."
She nods curtly and gestures toward the elevator bank.
"Take the elevator to the 23rd floor. Someone will meet you there."
I nod my thanks and make my way over to the elevators.
A few minutes later, I find myself standing outside Mr. Morton's office door.
I knock softly and wait for permission to enter.
When it comes, I push open the door and step inside.
Mr. Morton looks up from behind his desk and smiles warmly at me.
"Ah, Mr. Weber," he says, rising from his seat to greet me.
"Thank you for coming."
I return his smile and extend my hand for a handshake.
"The pleasure is mine," I reply, feeling a little more at ease now that we're face-to-face.
He motions for me to take a seat in one of the leather chairs opposite his desk, which I do gratefully.
As he sits back down, he begins to explain the details of my inheritance. "As you know," he starts, "your grandfather was a very wealthy man. He built his fortune through a combination of smart investments and hard work. Over time, he accumulated a significant amount of assets, including real estate holdings, stocks, bonds, and other securities."
I listen intently as he continues to speak, trying to absorb as much information as possible.
It's a lot to take in all at once, but I do my best to follow along.
"So what exactly does this mean for me?" I ask when he finally finishes speaking.
"Well," he replies thoughtfully, "it means that you stand to inherit a substantial amount of money and property. Your grandfather's estate is valued at several billion dollars, making you one of the wealthiest individuals in the world."
I sit there in stunned silence for a moment, trying to wrap my head around what he just said.
Several billion dollars?
That's an unfathomable amount of money!
