My girlfriend left me for a richer guy.
She said I was too poor and couldn't afford to give her a good life.
I was heartbroken, but I didn't give up.
I knew my life would change one day.
And it did.
My grandfather, who was a billionaire, died and left his entire fortune to me.
I was now one of the richest young men in the world.
People who had labeled me as a failure and thought I was too poor for their standards were now bowing at my feet.
I had changed my life and I would also change the lives of those around me.
I had become a powerful young billionaire and I would get revenge on those who had treated me badly.
My name is Brian Munson, Jr., but people call me Junior.
I am the long-lost grandson of a billionaire.
My life has been a hard broken road, but I never gave up because I knew my life would change one day.
I was abandoned when I was a baby and was left in an orphanage.
I didn't know who my parents were or why they had abandoned me.
I grew up in foster care with many other children who were also orphans.
We were fed little food and were forced to sleep on hard beds every night.
I drive my new Bentley to St. Mary's Orphanage, the same place where I grew up.
The building is still the same as it was when I left.
It's still a decrepit building that looks like it's about to fall down.
Sister Margaret, the woman who runs the orphanage, is waiting for me in the courtyard.
She looks older now, but she still has the same kind smile that she had when I was a child.
"Welcome, Mr. Munson," she says as she shakes my hand.
I smile and follow her inside.
The children are gathered in the courtyard, staring at me with wide eyes.
They are all wearing the same uniforms that we used to wear when we were here.
They are all thin and look hungry.
The Billionaire Reborn
I remember how I used to feel when I was here.
I would go to bed every night with an empty stomach, dreaming of all the delicious food that I would eat one day. We walk through the halls and I touch the peeling paint on the walls.
Nothing has changed since I left.
The rooms are still small and cramped, and there are still too many children sleeping in each room.
I remember how uncomfortable it was to sleep on those thin mattresses every night.
We finally reach the office and Sister Margaret closes the door behind us.
She sits down at her desk and motions for me to sit down across from her.
"Thank you for coming," she says as she smiles at me.
"I'm happy to be here," I say as I smile back at her.
She opens a drawer and pulls out a checkbook.
She begins to write a check, but then she stops and looks up at me. "I'm sorry, Mr. Munson," she says as she frowns at me.
"I don't know what came over me. Please forgive me."
"It's okay," I say as I smile at her again.
"I know that you're busy, so I'll get straight to the point."
I pull out my own checkbook and begin to write a check.
When I'm done, I hand it to her across the desk.
She takes it from me and looks down at it in confusion.
"What's this?" she asks as she looks up at me again.
"It's a check for five million dollars," I say as I smile at her again.
Her eyes widen in surprise as she looks back down at the check in her hand.
The Billionaire Reborn
"Mr. Munson, I don't understand," she says as she looks up at me again.
I stand up and pull out my phone.
I open an app and show her some preliminary blueprints that I had an architect draft.
The plans are for a modern three-story building with large dormitories, a computer lab, library, and indoor gymnasium.
Sister Margaret's hands shake as she looks at the renderings on my phone.
"We're going to tear down the old building and build a new one," I say as I smile at her again.
She looks up at me in shock.
"But what about the chapel?" she asks as she points to the small chapel that is attached to the main building.
"We're going to keep it," I say as I smile at her again.
"We'll restore it and make it part of the new building."
The Billionaire Reborn
She nods and smiles back at me.
"I'm glad you like it," I say as I put my phone back in my pocket.
"Now, let's talk about the details."
I take out a contract from my briefcase and hand it to her across the desk.
"This is a contract for the demolition company. They'll start next week."
She takes the contract from me and begins to read through it carefully.
After a few minutes, she looks up at me again. "I think we need to make arrangements for temporary housing for the current residents," she says as she looks down at the contract again.
I nod in agreement.
"Yes, of course. We'll arrange for them to stay at the nearby Catholic school. They have an unused wing that we can use until the new building is finished."
She nods and smiles back at me again.
The Billionaire Reborn
"Thank you, Mr. Munson," she says as she stands up from her chair.
"You're welcome," I say as I shake her hand again.
"It's my pleasure to help."
Back in my car, I pull up the demolition company's number on my phone.
The project manager, Dave, answers on the first ring.
"Hey, Dave. It's Junior Munson. Just wanted to confirm that you can start next Monday."
"Absolutely. We'll be there bright and early."
"Great. I'll send you the contract today. I just need to know how you plan on sectioning off the property so that the children can still play in the courtyard while you're demolishing the building."
"We'll put up a fence around the demolition site and make sure that it's secure at all times. We'll also have a team of workers who will be responsible for keeping an eye on the children and making sure that they don't get too close to the site."
"Sounds good. And what about the chapel? How will you protect it during the demolition process?"
"We'll put up a temporary wall around it to protect it from any debris. And we'll make sure that it's completely secure before we start demolishing the rest of the building."
"Great. I'll send you the contract today and we can finalize all of the details."
"Sounds good. Thanks again for hiring us for this job."
The Billionaire Reborn
"No problem. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product." As I hang up the phone, I look out my windshield and watch as children play in the courtyard.
They're laughing and chasing each other around, completely carefree.
I remember when I was their age and used to play in this same courtyard.
It's hard to believe that it's been so many years since I've been here.
I open my email app and send a message to the principal of the Catholic school.
I ask him to confirm that the empty wing is ready for us to move into next week.
He replies almost immediately, letting me know that everything is set.
The wing has been cleaned and furnished with beds and basic supplies.
We'll be able to move in as soon as we're ready.
I thank him for his help and let him know that we'll be there next Monday.
The Billionaire Reborn
As I drive away from St. Mary's Orphanage, I take one last look at the old building where I spent so much of my childhood.
It's hard to believe that it will soon be nothing more than a pile of rubble.
But I know that it's necessary in order to make way for something new and better.
