I was running along the corridor, my feet making soft thudding sounds on the carpet.
I had seen a red balloon floating in the distance, and I just had to follow it.
I turned a corner, and suddenly I was in a big hallway with rows of doors and a big staircase in the middle.
The red balloon floated up the stairs and disappeared to the left.
I ran after it, my feet thundering on the carpet, and turned left on the landing.
Here the doors were closer together, and the carpet was even thicker than on the stairs.
I ran as fast as I could, but my feet felt heavy, as if I was running through water.
The red balloon floated higher and higher, until it was just above my head.
I reached out and tried to grab it, but it floated away from me.
Suddenly I felt cold air on my skin, and I looked around to find that I was in a big room with windows all along one side.
The room was filled with giant babies—well, not really giant, but bigger than me—and they were all staring at me with huge smiles on their faces.
One of them suddenly let out a loud "Woo-hoo!" and started chasing me.
I turned around and ran as fast as I could back into the hallway.
My feet thundered on the carpet, and my breath came in ragged gasps.
I saw a door to the left and darted into it, my hands fumbling against the heavy wooden door.
My fingers slipped on the brass handle as I tried to pull it closed behind me.
Behind me, I could hear the giant baby's gleeful squeals echoing off the walls of the hallway as he came closer and closer.
The door didn't want to budge, scraping against the thick carpet as I pulled it shut inch by inch.
I threw my whole body weight against it, and finally I heard the satisfying click of the latch engaging.
Immediately, there were heavy thumping sounds on the other side of the door, and then a loud bang as something hit it with incredible force.
The door shuddered in its frame, and I could hear the giant baby pounding against it with his fists.
My heart pounded in my chest, and I could hear the blood rushing in my ears.
The baby continued to hammer against the door, making the hinges creak and groan.
The door frame splintered slightly with each impact, and I could see the wood start to crack.
I looked around the room frantically for something to barricade myself with, but there was nothing obvious.
The room was dimly lit by a single lamp in the corner, and it was hard to make out any details.
I saw a tall ceramic vase on a side table near the window and made a dash for it.
The pounding on the door grew louder and more insistent, and I could see the door starting to buckle inward.
I grabbed the vase, but it was much heavier than I expected, and my sweaty hands slipped on its smooth surface.
I nearly dropped it, but managed to catch it just in time. The baby's giggles echoed through the door as he continued to pound against it.
I lifted the vase above my head, my arms trembling with effort.
The baby's pounding grew louder and more insistent, and I could see the door starting to give way.
With a loud crash, I swung the vase down against the wooden door.
The shattered pieces of the vase scattered across the floor, and I stumbled backward, my hands stinging from the impact.
The pounding on the door suddenly stopped, and there was an eerie silence.
I took a few tentative steps back, my eyes fixed on the door.
Suddenly, my foot caught on the edge of the carpet, and I tripped.
I fell hard against the floor, and the impact dislodged a section of the carpet from its tacking strip.
As I struggled to get to my feet, my fingers brushed against something metal partially hidden between the floorboards.
I pulled at it, and it came loose in my hand.
It was a metal ring, attached to a small handle.
I tugged at it, and suddenly there was a low groaning sound from beneath me.
The floorboards shifted slightly, revealing a hidden trapdoor.
"Did you know about this?" I whispered to the room, half-expecting an answer.
A soft voice replied from the shadows, "I was hoping you'd find it before he broke through."
I knelt down beside the trapdoor, my fingers tracing the rough edges of the opening.
The metal ring felt cold against my palm as I slowly lifted the heavy wooden panel.
Stale air wafted up from below, carrying a faint scent of powder and old toys.
A narrow wooden staircase descended into darkness.
The voice from the shadows spoke again, this time closer to me, "Hurry, please."
Suddenly, the pounding at the door resumed, and I could hear splinters of wood crack inward.
