I wish I could say my life was normal, but it wasn’t.
My life was a mess, and it all started when I found out my dad was having an affair with my best friend's sister.
At first, I thought it was just a rumor, but then I saw them together with my own eyes.
I couldn't believe it.
My best friend, Ethan, and I had been friends since kindergarten, and his sister, Sasha, was someone I had known for just as long.
She was beautiful, kind, and gentle, and I never would have suspected that she would be having an affair with my father.
When I first found out, I was angry and confused.
I didn't know what to do or who to talk to.
I felt betrayed by both my father and Sasha.
I couldn't understand why my father would do something like this?
He had a great life with my mother and me, so why would he want to ruin it?
I also couldn't understand why Sasha would agree to be with a married man.
She was beautiful and smart; she deserved better than that.
As the days went by, things only got worse.
My mother found out about the affair, and instead of confronting my father, she became depressed.
She started taking antidepressants and spent most of her time in bed.
The Betrayal Trilogy
I park my car two blocks away from Dad's office building.
He leaves work early again, and I wait until he gets into his Mercedes before I start the engine of my car and follow him.
My hands grip the steering wheel so hard that my knuckles turn white.
I don't know what I'm going to do if he catches me following him, but I need to know the truth.
I tail him through downtown, always keeping three cars between us.
My heart pounds every time he signals a turn or stops at a red light.
I'm terrified that he's going to discover me, but I keep following him anyway.
Twenty minutes later, we arrive at the Golden Crown Hotel.
I park my car in the parking lot and watch as he pulls up to the entrance of the hotel and gets out of his car.
Through my windshield, I can see him straighten his tie in his side mirror before walking into the lobby. I grab my phone to record everything and step out of my car.

I follow him into the lobby, trying not to be seen as I watch him walk up to the reception desk and ask for his key card.
Once he has it, he turns around and heads toward the elevators.
I hesitate by the elevator bank and watch as the numbers climb to floor 12.
My hands shake as I press the up button, and I rehearse what I'm going to say if he sees me.
The elevator arrives, but it's empty.
I step inside and press 12.
Then I lean against the wall of the elevator and hold my phone up, ready to record whatever happens next.
The elevator dings softly as it passes each floor, and I flinch at every sound.
Finally, the doors open onto a long hallway with plush carpeting that muffles my footsteps.
I peek out into the hallway, looking both ways for any sign of my father.
When I don't see him, I step out into the hall and look for his room number. Room 1207 is halfway down the hall on my left.
I can hear voices coming from inside, but they're muffled by the door.

I creep closer, trying not to make any noise, and press my ear against the door.
"Are you sure this is what you want, David?" Sasha's voice is barely a whisper, but the tension in her words is unmistakable.
"I don't know what I want anymore," my father's voice replies, filled with a weariness I hadn't expected.
"Then why are we doing this?" Sasha asks, her voice trembling slightly.
