I jumped at Chris calling my name.

I must have been lost in thought for him to not have seen me waving to him as he pulled in the driveway.

"Sorry. I was expecting you to see me waving to you."

He got Emily out of the car seat in the back and walked up the front steps.

"I was preoccupied. How was your day?"

It had been two weeks since he told me about him and Sarah.

Two weeks that felt like hell as I watched the man I loved destroy everything we had built together.

I played along and acted like all was right in the world when Emily was around, but when we were alone…that was a different story.

"I had a good day. How about you?"

He gave me that smile, that crooked smirk that always made my heart flip flop.
