"Hey, average boy. I'm Quinn, the popular girl in school, and I had a feeling that I just couldn't get out of my head. I confess: I like you. Will you be my boyfriend?"
I was walking down the hallway this morning when a girl suddenly blocked my path.
She stood tall and sturdy, with blonde hair that matched her long legs.
She was gorgeous, probably the most beautiful girl in our school.
She had every guy falling at her feet, and yet she was standing in front of me asking me a question that seemed suspicious.
"Umm... I'm sorry. I don't even know your name," I replied softly.
She looked surprised that I didn't know who she was, but then a smirk played on her beautiful lips.
"Well, let me introduce myself. I'm Quinn, and my friends are Lily and Emily. Now that you know my name, will you be my boyfriend?"
I laughed in my head.
Who was this girl?
Did she just ask me out of nowhere?
Was I some kind of a charity project?
"Why would you want to be with me?"
I asked curiously.
She looked at me like I was the dumbest person on earth.
"Because you're cute," she said confidently.
I looked at her in disbelief.
She just introduced herself to me, and now she was telling me that I'm cute?
I shifted my weight from one foot to the other, studying her face for any sign of deception.
Her green eyes met mine steadily, but something about her smile didn't feel right.
Behind her, Lily and Emily were watching us intently from their lockers, whispering to each other.
My stomach tightened with uncertainty.
Still, the possibility that someone like Quinn could actually be interested in me made my heart race.
"Okay," I finally said, my voice coming out quieter than I intended.
"I'll be your boyfriend."
Quinn's smile widened as she stepped forward and linked her arm through mine.
"Great! Now, let's make sure everyone knows," she said, pulling me towards the crowded cafeteria.
"Wait, is this some kind of joke?" I asked, glancing nervously at her friends who were now following us.
"No joke," Quinn replied, her voice suddenly serious. "There's something I need your help with."
I let Quinn guide me through the cafeteria, watching as she expertly weaved between tables.
She kept her arm linked with mine, but she wouldn't meet my eyes.
We finally reached an empty table in the corner, and she released me to slide into the seat.
She gestured for me to join her, and I sat down across from her.
Lily and Emily hovered nearby, whispering to each other and giggling as they watched us.
Quinn leaned forward, lowering her voice.
"I need you to pretend to date me for a week," she said, glancing nervously at her friends.
"Just until next Friday."
I stayed silent, studying Quinn's face for any sign of sincerity.
She looked genuinely desperate, and I found myself wanting to help her.
"Okay," I said finally, reaching out to touch her hand.
"I'll do it."
Quinn's face lit up with a smile.
"Thank you," she said, squeezing my hand.
"I really appreciate it."
I nodded, feeling a warmth spread through my chest.
I had a feeling that this was going to be an interesting week.
It's been a week since Quinn asked me to be her boyfriend.
At first, I thought she was just messing with me, but then she started acting like we were actually dating.
She'd meet me in the hallways and walk with me to class, and we even sat together at lunch.
I couldn't believe it when she started holding my hand in front of everyone.
I was just an average guy, and Quinn was the most popular girl in school.
But today, things changed.
When I saw Quinn this morning, she barely looked at me.
She acted like she didn't know who I was, and when I tried to talk to her, she brushed me off.
I couldn't understand what was happening.
Had she changed her mind about dating me?
Was this some kind of joke?
I decided to try and talk to her again at lunchtime.
Maybe she was just having a bad day.
As I walked into the cafeteria, I scanned the room for Quinn's blonde head.
I spotted her sitting alone at our usual table, staring down at her phone.
I grabbed an ice cream cone from the dessert cart and headed over to join her.
"Sorry, babe, the cafeteria was pretty crowded, but I managed to get the ice cream you wanted."
Just as I approach and try to hand her the vanilla ice cream, she stands up and gives me a sharp look. "Stop calling me 'babe.' We're not together anymore. I'm done."
She says coldly, pointing at me angrily.
"I never liked you, okay? I only did this because I lost a bet with my friends."
Well, just as I suspected, her true self is finally coming out.
I stand frozen in place for a moment, still holding the dripping ice cream cone as Quinn storms off towards her friends Lily and Emily who are watching us from their lockers across the cafeteria.
The other students start whispering and pointing at me as they watch Quinn leave me standing there alone in the middle of the cafeteria looking like an idiot with my melting ice cream cone in my hand.
