The Berserker's Redemption

Scenario:In a world ruled by anthropomorphic animals uplifted by knowledge left behind by a long gone highly advanced civilization, there is a land in northern hemisphere where the Old Norse ways thrives once more. There are three main protagonists in this story. The main male lead is a calm but friendly wolf warrior named Ken Fenrir. Long ago, a younger Ken was abducted by a mysterious group of villains and granted him through experimentation the ability to transform into a feral berserker called an Ulfhednar. Ken went berserk and unintentionally harmed the leader of the wolf clan he served. In order to protect everyone, Ken self-exiled himself from the lands. Now Ken has returned from exile, having somewhat mastered his Ulfhednar-transformation, to fulfill the promise he made to his childhood friend, the beautiful white cougar Aven Freya. But before the two could find time and catch up, Aven was then kidnapped by the new age viking clan, the Bloody Blizzard Brigade, and it’s now up to Ken to rescue her. Ken won’t be alone in this adventure as he is accompanied by his other childhood friend, the wisecracking raven named Rav, who helps Ken by guiding him through the areas thanks to Rav’s navigational and flight skills. The third protagonist and the female lead is Aven herself, the cool but kindhearted white female cougar warrior and daughter of the jarl of a cougar clan. Aven is a mighty warrior who, despite having the presence befitting for an ice queen, possess a warm heart. She has a deep infatuation for Ken since childhood but had this guilt for what happened to him in the past, even though it wasn’t her fault, since she was the one who asked him wait for her at a certain spot (where she originally planned to meet and ask him to be her boyfriend) but that ultimately got him abducted and turned him into the Ulfhednar by a mysterious group. When Ken returned from his self-exile, Aven hoped to reignite their bond and do everything in her power to help him and his problem with the Ulfhednar-transformation. But then she got kidnapped by the Bloody Blizzard Brigade and taken to overseas towards a mysterious location. But Aven won’t stay idle in her cell as she will break free and starts disassemble the villains’ grand operation piece by piece and taking down half of the mayor players of Bloody Blizzard Brigade, unaware that Ken is already out there to rescue her until they meet again at the final area. The Bloody Blizzard Brigade is a group new age vikings that consists of dishonored outcasts of various species (wolves, lynxes, rats, etcetera) led by a mysterious benefactor. The group are supervised by five major players; the disgruntled but strategically gifted seafarer Captain Irontusk the walrus, the bloodthirsty warrior Adríel the red stag, the electrifying rocker Hræsvelgr the Eurasian griffon vulture, the silent sniper Simo the snow leopard and the stoic and brutal berserker Blainn the polar bear (he is also indirectly responsible for Ken’s Ulfhednar-transformation). The mysterious benefactor, the true mastermind behind this grand scheme, is later revealed to be none other than Druid Lord Yvar. Yvar is a wizened stag who was a respected hero among the herbivore people who fought against carnivore invaders but now he has grown bitter with the current generation’s lack of true heroism, who had the Bloody Blizzard Brigade kidnap Aven to use her (or rather, the Freya-family blood that runs in her veins) to awaken an ancient colossal frost-breathing monstrosity known as the Coldfather, hoping his threat would give rise to true heroes. Ken’s quest to rescue Aven makes him and Rav travel through the treacherous forests, abandoned old ruins at the snowy mountains, the beautiful yet deadly crystal caves, crossing over the icy seas and finally at the final resting place of the mighty Viking Lords where a terrifying secret lies within.

I was running as fast as I could, my paws pounding against the ground.
My wolf form allowed me to run faster than any normal wolf, but even then, I couldn’t keep up with the raven flying above me.
I didn’t mind, though; it was nice to have some company.
"Hey! Wait up! Slowpoke!"
The raven, Rav, cawed down at me.
"Shut up, Rav. You know I can’t keep up with you when you’re flying."
"Can you blame me? You’re slow."
"Well, excuse me for not having wings."
"You could if you wanted to. You know that now," Rav said.
"But I’m not exactly willing to give up my body for a bird’s body. Not really my thing."
"Well, you’re missing out. Flying is fun!"
"I’ll take your word for it."
We had been traveling together for a few days now.
I had come back to the north after a long time away, and I had finally mustered the courage to go see Aven Freya.
It was only once a year that the Bloody Blizzard Brigade struck, and they had come and kidnapped Aven just a few days ago.
I couldn’t let them get away with it; I had promised her I would come see her this time I was back in the north.
I couldn’t break that promise.
"Rav! Wait! I think we’re coming up on something!"
I stopped running immediately and looked around.
The trees were becoming sparser and farther apart.
"What is it?"
The Berserker's Redemption
I slow to a cautious walk, scanning between the thinning trees while keeping my ears perked for any sound.
Above me, Rav’s flight pattern changes; his tight circles grow more frantic.
I catch a whiff of smoke on the wind, and I sniff the air.
Through the gaps in the canopy above us, I can see a pillar of dark smoke rising about half a mile ahead.
Rav lands on a low branch, his feathers ruffled from flying so fast.
"There’s a camp ahead," they whisper.
"Bloody Blizzard Brigade. About two dozen of them."
My muscles tense as I crouch lower, creeping forward to get a better look.
The smoke thickens, and I hear distant voices carried on the wind.
I brace myself, knowing that this time, I won't leave without Aven.
The Berserker's Redemption
I creep through the underbrush, staying downwind to mask my scent.
Through gaps in the foliage, I see three campfires burning in a clearing.
Warriors sit around each fire, their weapons within easy reach.
Two guards patrol the perimeter of the camp, while others clean their gear or eat.
Rav circles silently overhead, using wing signals to warn me when a guard is about to pass by my position.
I pause behind a fallen log, watching as the guards move in tandem.
The warriors are all dressed in dark fur-lined coats with the Brigade’s insignia emblazoned on their chests—a white wolf’s head with red eyes and teeth bared in a snarl.
I scan the camp for Aven, but she’s nowhere to be seen.
However, I do notice a large tent at the center of the camp, and I can hear a gruff voice barking orders from inside.
It’s probably Captain Irontusk himself.
The Berserker's Redemption
Next to the tent is a large wooden table where several maps are spread out.
