Koda the bear

He is a solitary bear living in a forest. He is clever, ambitious, and persistent. One day, he found an egg and decided to incubate it, believing it would hatch into a bird. He cared for it tenderly, stroking it with his paws and keeping it warm. Despite his efforts, the egg remained unchanged, and he eventually realized it was a dragon egg. Overjoyed by this discovery, Koda hatched a dragon named Zeta, who grew up to be wise and kind.

Astrid the dragon

She is a young dragon who hatched from an egg found by Koda the bear. She is curious, gentle, and wise beyond her years. As a chick, Astrid followed her instincts and learned to fly before she could even walk. Under the care of Koda, she grew into a majestic dragon with silver wings and a deep understanding of magic. Astrid formed a deep bond with Koda, treating him as her father and protector.

Koda's Caves

He is a network of caves belonging to Koda the bear. They are safe, cozy, and wellventilated. Koda took Astrid under his care in his caves, providing her with shelter and protection. The caves were large enough for Astrid to practice her flying without worrying about harm. They also served as a safe space for Koda and Astrid to rest, store food, and enjoy each other's company without disturbance from other animals in the forest.

I am the strongest and most mighty bear of all.
Every animal in the forest, upon seeing me, will run away as fast as their legs can carry them.
I am accustomed to being alone and have grown used to it.
I don’t mind it at all.
In fact, I rather enjoy it.
Being alone means I can do whatever I want and don’t have to take anyone else into consideration.
I can walk wherever I please, sleep whenever I like, eat whatever I can find, and sing whenever the mood strikes me… which is often.
"I am the invincible bear!
I can do whatever I please,
I am not afraid of anything,
For I am the strongest of all,
The greatest, most fantastic bear!
"I sing to myself as I stroll through the woods, enjoying the warm sunshine filtering through the trees and feeling rather pleased with myself.
"Ha! Who needs friends when one is as clever and strong as myself?
For I am a bear unlike any other,
The most fantastic of them all,
And I don’t need anyone’s help,
For I can take care of myself!
"I stop abruptly in my tracks, for something white has caught my eye.
I bend down to investigate further and find… an egg!
A beautiful, lovely egg, so pure and white as snow.
It must be delicious!
'Well then,' I think to myself, 'I shall eat it!'
But then an even better idea strikes me.
If I were to eat this egg now, there would be no more eggs.
But if I were to incubate it first… Why, then I would have a bird!
And birds lay eggs!
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
I gather soft moss and twigs from the forest floor, carefully selecting the driest and cleanest pieces.
Moving deeper into my cave, I search for a spot that is both cozy and protected from drafts.
Finally, I find the perfect corner.
With my large paws, I begin to construct the nest, weaving the twigs and moss together in a circular shape.
I test its sturdiness by pressing down gently with my paw.
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
Satisfied with the result, I line the nest with the softest moss and even pluck some of my own fur from my chest to add extra warmth.
Then, with great care, I place the precious white egg in the center of the nest.
I adjust it slightly until it sits perfectly balanced.
I settle into my usual spot in the cave, ready to begin my nightly watch over the egg.
The flickering light from outside casts shadows across its pristine surface, and that's when I notice something peculiar.
Leaning closer, I spot delicate lines etched into the shell - swirling patterns that remind me of the mountain paths I walk in summer.
I extend my paw, tracing each marking carefully with my padded finger.
The shell feels warm, warmer than usual, and the patterns seem to shift under my touch.
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
I lean in even closer to examine the markings, my nose almost touching the egg.
The lines appear to be moving, like the gentle lapping of water against the shore.
I lower my head until my ear touches the smooth surface of the egg, and I listen intently.
At first, all I can hear is my own breathing and the distant chirping of crickets outside the cave.
But then, I detect a soft sound - like the rustling of leaves in a summer breeze, but it sounds almost like words.
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
I stroke the shell gently with my paw again, and to my surprise, the sound grows stronger.
It's still not clear enough to make out any distinct words, but it's definitely there.
I try different positions, pressing my ear against various spots on the egg, following the curved lines of the markings with my paw.
The sound becomes unmistakable, a gentle whisper that says, "You are not alone."
I lean closer, my breath creating small clouds in the cool cave air.
The shell's warmth intensifies against my fur as I wait for another message.
"Who are you?" I whisper, my voice barely audible, and this time I press both paws gently around the egg's curved surface.
The swirling patterns beneath my pads seem to pulse with a faint blue glow, like the reflection of moonlight on still water.
Minutes pass in silence, broken only by the steady drip of cave water and my increasingly eager breathing.
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
Just as I'm about to pull away, the egg rocks slightly, and a melodic hum vibrates through my paws.
"Guardian," the whisper returns, clearer now, resonating with a gentle authority.
My heart skips a beat, and I ask, "Guardian of what?"
"The last of its kind," the voice replies, carrying a weight that settles deep within my chest.
I pace around the cave, my usual confident stride faltering with each step.
The words echo in my mind like a mantra - the last of its kind.
I've always known this egg was special, but I never imagined the magnitude of its significance.
My paws tremble slightly as I approach the nest, the fur and twigs carefully arranged to cradle the precious egg.
I check the nest compulsively, adding more fur here and there, adjusting the twigs until they're perfectly aligned.
Each time I touch the egg's surface, the blue patterns pulse stronger, as if responding to my growing concern.
Suddenly, a small crack appears on the egg's surface - a tiny fissure that wasn't there before.
Instead of excitement, my muscles tense.
What if I'm not ready?
What if I fail?
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
"You must be," the voice insists, its tone both soothing and firm.
"But how can I protect something so important?" I murmur, my eyes fixed on the crack.
"Trust in your instincts, for they are stronger than you know," the whisper replies, echoing with a quiet confidence that steadies my racing heart.
I curl protectively around the egg, my massive body forming a living barrier against the cave's chill.
The pulsing blue patterns cast dancing shadows on the walls as more fractures spider across the egg's surface.
Despite my determination to be a worthy guardian, my paws tremble when I hear scratching from within.
I resist the urge to help break the shell, remembering how bird chicks must emerge on their own.
A sharp tap echoes through the cave, followed by a silvery claw piercing through the shell.
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
The egg shatters, revealing a creature with eyes that mirror the cosmos.
I watch in awe as the tiny dragon takes its first wobbly steps from the broken shell, its silver scales catching the cave's dim light.
When it stumbles, I instinctively reach out with my paw to steady it, but pause, letting it find its balance.
The dragon's wings, still damp from the egg, unfold slowly like delicate leaves.
Its head turns toward me, eyes wide and trusting.
My heart pounds as I lean forward, my nose inching closer to this miraculous being.
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
The dragon doesn't flinch or retreat.
It nuzzles against my snout, sealing our bond with a silent promise.
I watch the baby dragon sleep, its silver scales rising and falling with each breath.
Three days have passed since its birth, and we've spent our time in the safety of the cave, resting and growing accustomed to each other's presence.
The dragon stirs as morning light filters through the cave's mouth, casting a warm glow on its delicate form.
It stretches its small wings, yawns, and blinks sleepily at me.
I move slowly, not wanting to startle it.
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
I position myself between the dragon and the cave entrance, encouraging it to explore beyond our sheltered sanctuary.
The little one follows my movements with curious eyes, taking wobbly steps toward me.
I stand at the cave entrance, watching my little dragon hesitate at the threshold.
Sunbeams pierce through morning mist, creating golden paths on the forest floor.
The dragon presses against my leg, trembling slightly at the new sensations.
I lower my head and nudge it forward with my nose, encouraging but not forcing.
As it takes its first step outside, its silver scales catch the light, throwing rainbow reflections onto the cave walls.
The Bear And His Dragon Daughter
A butterfly flutters past, and the dragon's head snaps up, tracking the colorful movement.
"Do you see that, little one?" I whisper, nodding towards the butterfly.
The dragon chirps softly, its eyes wide with wonder, "What is it, Guardian?"
"It's a sign," I murmur, feeling a deep certainty settle within me, "Your journey begins today."
