I was walking down the hallway when I felt like my shoe was coming off.
I tried to keep it on, but I couldn't.
It slipped off my foot, and I didn't have time to stop and put it back on.
I had a meeting to get to.
Looking down at my feet, I saw that I was only wearing one shoe.
"Damn," I muttered to myself.
I lost a shoe, and now I had to walk around work with one shoe on.
This was not me at all.
I walked into the meeting room, and everyone looked up at me.
They all stared at my feet, and I felt selfconscious.
"I lost a shoe," I told them.
"It slipped off while I was walking."
Mark Thompson looked at me awkwardly.
"Lily, I'm sorry, but you can't wear casual shoes in the office building. It's against company policy."
I sighed inwardly.
"I know, Mark. It's just that I don't have any other shoes with me."
"You'll have to go barefoot then," he told me.
I looked down at my feet and sighed.
I had no choice but to go barefoot at work.
Everyone was staring at my feet, and I felt uneasy.
This was so unprofessional.
Walking around barefoot at work wasn't me at all.
After the meeting, everyone headed back to their offices, and I walked barefoot through the hallway.
I felt like a fool, and everyone was staring at my feet.
