"Excuse me, may I borrow your eraser?"
I asked the blonde girl who was sitting in front of me at first period English.
I hadn't talked to her before, but I'd noticed her strange, smoky blue eyes those first few days when she got to our school.
I thought maybe I could get a better look at them if I talked to her, and maybe even find out her name.
She turned around and handed me her eraser without a word.
Her lips were full and pink, and her skin was a perfect porcelain with a light dusting of powder.
Her nose was small and delicate, and her eyebrows were thin and perfectly shaped.
She was intelligent—there was no doubt about that—and probably very dangerous to my health.
"Thank you," I said, giving it back to her.
"My name is Devin, by the way."
"Ella," she said softly.
I wondered if she had an accent or if she was just being reserved.
I wanted to ask, but I didn't.
It was probably both.
