Jack is a high school football player but today he is babysitting Jade why her mom is on a business trip for 2 weeks
Jack Thompson
protective, and humorous. Jack reluctantly agrees to babysit his best friend's younger sister, Jade, while her mother is away for two weeks. Despite initial reservations, he grows close to Jade and enjoys their adventures together. Jack balances his football commitments with caring for Jade, showing a softer side beneath his tough exterior.
Jade Parker
playful, and affectionate. Jade looks up to Jack as a guardian figure during her mother's absence and enjoys spending time with him. She often tests Jack's patience with her mischievous antics but ultimately brings out his nurturing side.
Ryan Parker
humorous, and reliable. Ryan helps convince Jack to babysit Jade by emphasizing the importance of family obligations.
"Hey buddy, I need a favor," my best friend Ryan asked through the phone.
I was in the locker room with my teammates getting ready for our game when he called.
"Can you?"
"What is it?"
I asked, looking around at my teammates who were looking at me curiously.
"My sisterinlaw is going on a business trip to New York for two weeks and has no one to leave Jade with," he explained.
I was already a babysitter?
No way, I was a football player, not a freaking babysitter and I was only in high school myself.
"Um," I started, not knowing what to say.
"Look, I know it's a big ask but she is 7 years old, she is pretty low maintenance," he said.
I shifted uncomfortably on the bench.
My teammates were still staring at me.
"She loves watching football so she can hang out in the stands with my mom. She has actually been to a few of your games already," he continued.
"Really? Which ones?"
I asked.
"The last three home games, actually," he answered.
"Does she wear one of those mini cheerleader outfits?"
I asked, remembering seeing some girls in the stands wearing them.
"Yeah, she does," he replied.
"That's cute," I muttered, feeling my resolve weaken.
"She cheers for you and even wears a mini version of your jersey. You would make her day if you came to say hi after the game. It would mean a lot to her," he added, pulling out all the stops.
I could hear Coach Martinez walking by behind me and I covered the receiver with my hand as he stopped in front of me.
"Everything okay Jack?" he asked. "Yeah coach, family business," I replied and he nodded and continued on his way down the line of lockers.
"You still there?" he asked over the phone.
"Yeah," I replied reluctantly.
"Please man, this is a huge ask, I know but you have no idea how much this would mean to her," he said.
I let out a deep sigh before responding.
"I don't know Ryan, that's a pretty big responsibility," I said.
"I will owe you one for sure, not only that but I will help you write your college essays. I know how much trouble you are having with those," he said sweetening the deal even more.
That did it for me, writing those essays had been a nightmare and getting some help from Ryan would be great since he was so good at writing them. "Okay fine, send them over after the game and we can work out all the details," I finally agreed.
"Thank you so much Jack!" he exclaimed excitedly.
"You're a lifesaver, man. I owe you big time," Ryan said, relief evident in his voice.
"Just make sure you keep your promise about those essays," I replied, trying to sound stern but failing to hide my smile.
"Absolutely, I'll even throw in a few practice tests for good measure," he chuckled, sealing the deal with a laugh.
"Alright, I gotta go, coach is calling us for a huddle. I'll talk to you later," I said, ending the call and stuffing my phone into my locker.
I grabbed my helmet and headed over to where coach Martinez was standing.
"Alright guys, huddle up," he yelled as I joined the circle of players.
The familiar tension in my chest started to build as we got ready for the game.
The fluorescent lights overhead glinted off our navyblue helmets as we put our hands in for our chant.
I took a deep breath, knowing that after the game, my life was about to get a whole lot more interesting.
