I was twenty-two weeks pregnant.
My belly button had started to become a little convex, like the top of a mushroom.
I was unable to fasten the top button of my pants, and I had to buy bigger pants.
My husband, Yi-jun, could not get enough of rubbing my tummy, as if my stomach was already showing signs of being round and plump.
The baby kicked me twice a day, and I could feel the movement of his little hands and feet inside my body.
He would kick me gently, as if he were saying hello to me.
My little baby boy had already grown up to be two pounds in weight.
I was unable to wait until I could hold him in my arms.
After work, I went to the daycare where my two-year-old daughter Misty attended.
The daycare was for children of couples who came from all over the world to work and live in Seoul.
I worked there part-time.

I saw Misty playing with blocks in the toddler area as soon as I entered the daycare room.
She looked up, her eyes widened, and she recognized me.
Dropping the toys in her hands, she waddled toward me with her arms stretched out.
"Baby brother hugs!"
The other children turned to look at her as she approached my protruding belly.
I crouched down carefully so that I could support my back against the wall and not hurt my waist.
Misty wrapped her tiny arms around my stomach and pressed her ear against it as if she were listening to her brother's voice.
She giggled when she felt a kick on her ear.
She looked up at me with wonder in her eyes. I stroked her hair and said softly, "He's kicking you."
Misty giggled again and asked me, "Baby brother is here?"

I nodded and said, "Yes."
Misty continued to hug my stomach tightly, as if she were afraid that her baby brother would run away from home.
I could feel the warmth of her little body through my clothes.
After a while, she let go of her hug and sat cross-legged on the play mat.
Then she ran to her cubby and came back with something in her hand.
She held out a piece of wet paper to me.
The paint was still glistening on it.
"For brother!"
I took the paper from her hand and held it up.
It was a painting of a wobbly green circle stacked on top of a larger green circle, with stick arms poking out the sides.
"Is this a snowman?"
I asked Misty.
She nodded enthusiastically and said, "Green! Brother's favorite!"

I didn't correct her assumption that her unborn brother's favorite color was green.
Instead, I carefully tucked the painting into my work bag, making sure not to smudge the fresh paint.
Misty looked up at me with a serious expression and asked, "Mommy, when brother comes, will he play blocks with me?"
I smiled and replied, "Of course, sweetheart, he'll love playing with you."
She clapped her hands excitedly and said, "Then I'll teach him to build the biggest tower ever!"

While buckling Misty into her car seat, I noticed she was still clutching the green snowman painting.
I adjusted the straps to make sure they were snug against her little body.
As I did so, she stared intently at my belly.
Her eyes were fixed on my stomach with a look of deep concentration.
Suddenly, her face broke into a wide grin.
"Daddy, can we name brother Pancake?"
She asked, bouncing up and down in her seat.
I paused, my hand still on the buckle, trying not to laugh.
"Why Pancake?" she asked, tilting her head to one side.
Misty's face lit up with excitement as she explained, "Because I love pancakes! And Papa Yi-jun makes the best pancakes on Sundays. Brother must love pancakes too because Mommy's tummy is getting round like a pancake!"

I finished securing her car seat and closed the door.
As I got into the driver's seat, Yi-jun turned to me with a chuckle.
"Well, Pancake it is then," he said, winking at Misty through the rearview mirror.
I laughed and replied, "I guess we'll have to see if he lives up to the name."
While driving home, Misty suddenly frowns at her painting, looking deep in thought.
She drops her usual chatter about pancakes and blocks, making me check on her through the rearview mirror.
"What's on your mind, sweetheart?" she asks.
She scrunches her nose, the way she does when solving a puzzle at daycare.
"Or how about since ur name is Hyun and papa's is Yi-jun, how about Yi-hyun?" she suggests, pronouncing each syllable carefully.

Yi-jun nearly misses a turn, surprised by her clever wordplay.
I twist in my seat to look at her, watching as she beams with pride at combining our names.
I reach back to squeeze her knee, and she looks up at me, her face lighting up with satisfaction.
The afternoon sun streams through the car windows, casting a warm glow on her small frame.
She's still clutching the green snowman painting in her hands.
Yi-jun keeps sneaking glances at her through the mirror, his eyes filled with pride and affection.
"Yi-hyun," I whisper to myself, letting the name roll off my tongue.

It feels right, like it was meant to be all along.
As if sensing my thoughts, our unborn son kicks gently against my belly.
I rest my hand on my swollen stomach, feeling the subtle movements beneath my palm.
Misty notices and points excitedly, "Mommy! Brother is moving!"
