The aunties ms Sue and Ms Janet and their niece Lily who is sick
Sue
She is a caring aunt who takes care of Lily, her niece. She is nurturing, patient, and responsible. Sue lives with her partner Janet, and they have been planning to adopt Lily permanently. She enjoys cooking and making sure Lily has a happy and comfortable home life. Sue struggles with the challenges of caring for a sick child but finds joy in the routine of their little family they are building together with Janet.
Janet
She is Sue's partner and Lily's other aunt. She is supportive, kind, and thoughtful. Janet works from home as a teacher and helps Sue care for Lily. She is excited about adopting Lily soon and looks forward to building a family with Sue. Janet takes charge when Lily needs rest, and she ensures that Sue gets some break time too. Her loving relationship with Sue is evident, creating a nurturing environment for Lily to grow up in stability and love.
Lily
She is a young girl around 6 years old, belonging to Sue and Janet. She is cheerful, energetic, and affectionate. Despite being sick often, she brings joy to Sue and Janet's lives, and they cherish her dearly. Lily’s frequent visits to the hospital become routine, but the family remains hopeful about her future health. Her bond with the aunties is strong, creating a loving family dynamic. Lily’s presence brings light and laughter to their little household, filling it with love and anticipation.
Lily was already in her favourite pink pyjamas and sat on the couch with her favourite teddy bear, which she affectionately called Mr Whiskers.
Ms Sue and Ms Janet were her aunties, but soon they would be adopted as her parents.
The three of them lived together, and Ms Janet worked from home as a teacher.
Ms Sue did the cooking and cleaned the house, but only when Lily was in school.
On days off like this, they took turns looking after Lily and giving each other breaks.
Ms Sue was currently watching her favourite show, Coronation Street, while Ms Janet had a nap.
Ms Sue loved cooking and made sure everything was ready for the next day before she went to bed.
Lily was currently pulling all the stuffing out of Mr Whiskers, which made Ms Sue laugh.
"You are so naughty, Lily," said Ms Sue with a grin on her face.
"I love Mr Whiskers," said Lily with a pouted look on her face.
"Mr Whiskers will be fine, my lovely," said Ms Sue.
Lily looked at Mr Whiskers and grinned before putting him under her arm and giving him a big hug.
Ms Sue smiled before turning back to watch her favourite show.
After Coronation Street finished, Ms Sue turned the TV off and sat next to Lily on the couch.
"How are you feeling today, my lovely?" asked Ms Sue.
I reach over to feel her forehead, and it's still warm but not as hot as yesterday.
She curls up against my side, with Mr Whiskers still under her arm.
The evening light is coming through the curtains, so I pull the fleece blanket from the back of the couch and cover us both.
Lily's breathing sounds better than yesterday, but I will make sure she has her medicine before bed.
She points to Mr Whiskers and his stuffing hanging out of him.
"I will sew him tomorrow, my lovely," I say with a smile on my face.
Lily nods her head before closing her eyes again.
The house is quiet except for Janet's footsteps upstairs.
"Ms Sue," Lily whispers, eyes still closed, "will you and Ms Janet always be here with me?"
"Of course, my lovely," Ms Sue replies softly, brushing a stray curl from Lily's forehead.
"But what if someone tries to take me away again?" Lily asks, her voice trembling slightly.
I notice her eyelids growing heavy, her body nestling deeper into the blanket.
The evening shadows stretch across our living room, and the TV hums quietly in the background.
I gently stroke her hair, careful not to disturb her as she drifts between sleep and wakefulness.
Her small hand reaches out to grasp the sleeve of my shirt, and I adjust my position on the couch to make her more comfortable.
As she shifts, I notice the torn seam of Mr Whiskers, his stuffing threatening to spill out.
I carefully extract him from her loosening grip and place him on the side table.
