I was an experiment at a lab.
They gave me so many powers that it would be dangerous for me to get out.
One day I did get out and ran until I couldn't go any further.
Then I shifted and ran some more until I collapsed in a pile of leaves.
I was cold, hungry, and very tired.
I had been running for days and finally found a place to rest.
I don't know how long I was there but someone woke me up.
"Hello are you okay?"
I heard a deep voice ask me.
I looked up to see a man looking down at me.
"Who are you?"
I asked him in a harsh tone.
"I'm Ethan."
Ethan replied in a soft voice.
"My mate," he added in a more excited tone.
I looked at him and could tell he wasn't lying.
He was my mate!
I hadn’t ever thought I would find him, to be honest I didn’t really care if I did or not.
But now that I had him I felt happy and safe when he was around.
"I'm Luna."
I said softly, looking down at the ground as I talked to him.
"Its nice to meet you Luna."
Ethan said in a happy tone.
He started walking back to his house and I followed him.
We walked for about an hour and then we were at his house.
We walked inside and it was very nice inside.
It was big and beautiful, "this is your room Luna."
I said, staggering into the room.
My legs were trembling and I could barely walk after days of running.
I looked down at the floor and saw it was carpeted.
It felt weird under my bare feet because I was used to concrete floors.
I looked up and saw a queen-sized bed with crisp white sheets on it.
It made me realize how tired I was.
My vision started to blur at the edges.
I tried to take another step but my knees buckled.
Ethan reached for me but I was already falling.
The mattress caught me as I pitched forward.
"Why did you run?" Ethan asked, concern lacing his voice.
"I had to," I whispered, my voice barely audible. "They were going to use me for something terrible."
Ethan's eyes darkened with understanding. "Then you're safe here, Luna. I promise."
My body sank into the mattress, softer than anything I had felt in years.
Ethan's footsteps moved away from the bed and then returned.
The bed shifted as he sat on its edge.
I cracked my eyes open to see him unfolding a thick blanket.
"You're safe now," he murmured, carefully draping it over me.
The weight and warmth enveloped my aching muscles.
His hand hovered near my shoulder, hesitant to touch me.
When I didn't flinch away, he tucked the blanket around my shoulders with gentle care.
Tears pricked at the corners of my eyes at the simple act of kindness.
For the first time in years, I allowed myself to believe it.
Ethan's careful movements lulled me closer to sleep.
The exhaustion that had been building in my bones for days finally won out.
My muscles relaxed into the plush mattress, a foreign sensation after years of sleeping on metal cots.
The blanket's weight grounded me, keeping my thoughts from racing.
Through half-lidded eyes, I watched Ethan settle into a chair across the room, his presence a silent guardian.
My breaths slowed and deepened.
The room's warmth wrapped around me like a cocoon.
I closed my eyes, surrendering to the peace I had never known.
