My name is Lynn.
I am 45 years old, married, but not happy.
I have been in love with one of my employees for a while; his name is Mark.
My life turned upside down when I found the first book.
It was a start of a new world, a world of paranormal romance, submission, bondage, and erotic love.
My husband and I own a local construction company in a small town.
We have been married for twenty years; he has been cheating on me for ten years with his secretary.
We have a daughter; she is eighteen. She just graduated from high school and is working at the restaurant until she goes to college in the fall.
My husband and I are just roommates.
There is no love between us; there hasn’t been for a long time.
He doesn’t even pretend to make me happy anymore.
He is only home to sleep.
How long can someone pretend that everything is okay when it’s not?
I was at the beach one day, thinking about my life and how I came to this point in my life.
Why did I let things go so far?
Was I afraid to be alone?
Why did I let him treat me like this?
What happened to the love we had for each other?
Where did we go wrong?
What happened to the person I fell in love with?
Who is this person I am living with?
I was lost in thought when I saw a young man walking on the beach.
He was tall and muscular, with broad shoulders and a narrow waist.
He had dark hair, and his eyes were bright blue.
He was dressed in a pair of black swim trunks and had a towel draped over his shoulder.
He walked to the water’s edge, then turned and looked at me.
I felt a jolt of electricity run through my body.
It was as if time stopped for a moment, and all I could see was him.
I knew I had to have him, but how?
I had never been unfaithful to my husband before.
I didn’t know what to do or how to go about it.
As I sat there thinking, he walked over to where I was sitting.
He smiled at me, and I felt my heart pound in my chest.
I knew right then that I would do anything to be with him. "Hello," he said as he sat down next to me.
"Hi," I replied, trying to play it cool.
He asked me what I was doing there, and I told him that I was just enjoying the sun and the view.
He said he was doing the same thing.
We talked for a while, and then he asked me if I wanted to grab some lunch together.
I agreed, and we went to a small restaurant nearby.
We sat down at a table by the window, looking out at the ocean.
He told me his name was Mark; he was twenty-five years old and worked as a chef at an upscale restaurant in town.
We talked for hours, getting to know each other better than we should have in such a short amount of time.
When it was time for us to part ways, he walked me back to my car and kissed me softly on the cheek before saying goodbye. Over the next few weeks, we spent more and more time together.
We would meet up for lunch or dinner, or just go for walks on the beach.
I couldn’t believe how much I had fallen for him already.
He was everything that my husband wasn’t: kind, caring, thoughtful, and attentive.
Every time we were together, he made sure that I knew how much he cared about me and how happy I made him feel.
As our relationship progressed, we started talking about taking things to the next level.
Mark wanted us to be exclusive; he wanted us to be together only with each other from now on.
I knew that this would be a big change for me, but I was excited about the prospect of being with someone who truly cared about me.
We decided to meet up at the beach one morning before work to talk about our future together.
I got there early and sat down on the sand, watching the waves roll in.
After a few minutes, Mark showed up and sat down next to me.
We talked for a while, and then he took my hands in his.
He looked at me with his piercing blue eyes and told me that he wanted us to be together, but not just in secret.
He wanted us to be a real couple, to go out on dates and meet each other’s friends and family.
I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as I thought about what he was saying.
It was a big step for me, but I knew that I wanted to be with him. "Yes," I said softly, looking into his eyes.
He smiled and pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly as we sat there watching the waves roll in.
As we hugged, I felt a sense of peace wash over me.
I knew that this was what I wanted, what I needed.
I was ready to move on from my unhappy marriage and start something new with Mark.
He was everything that my husband wasn’t, and I knew that he would make me happy.
We spent the rest of the day together, talking about our future and making plans for our first date as a couple.
As the sun began to set, we reluctantly said our goodbyes and promised to see each other soon.
After my shift at the restaurant ended, I went to my office and closed the door behind me.
I sat down at my desk and pulled out my phone.
My hands were shaking as I dialed Mark’s number.
He answered on the second ring, and I could hear the smile in his voice when he said hello.
"Hey," I said softly, trying to calm my nerves.
"Hey there, beautiful," he replied, his voice warm and inviting.
"I was thinking about this weekend," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.
"What about it?" he asked, his tone curious.
"I found a small bed and breakfast in the next town over," I replied, trying to keep my voice from shaking.
"It’s got a private beach and a hot tub overlooking the ocean. What do you think about us going there for the weekend?"
I asked, hoping against hope that he would say yes. "That sounds amazing," he replied, his voice filled with excitement.
"I would love to go with you."
"Great," I said softly, feeling a sense of relief wash over me.
"I’ll make the reservations and we can leave early Saturday morning."
"Sounds like a plan," he said, his voice still filled with excitement.
"And Lynn?"
"Yes?" I replied, feeling a sense of anticipation building inside of me.
"I can’t wait to see you again," he said softly.
"I can’t wait to see you either," I replied, feeling a smile spread across my face.
"Goodnight, Lynn," he said softly as we ended our call. "Goodnight, Mark," I replied, feeling a sense of happiness wash over me as I hung up the phone.
I couldn’t wait to spend this weekend with him.
As I sat there thinking about our upcoming trip together, I heard footsteps outside of my office door.
I froze as they got closer and closer until finally they stopped right outside my door.
I could hear Sarah’s voice whispering something to someone else outside of my office door; then she knocked lightly before entering.
"Hey boss lady," she said cheerfully as she walked in holding a stack of dirty dishes from the dining area.
"Hey Sarah," I replied, trying to sound casual as I put my phone down.
She glanced at me with a knowing smile, "So, who’s the lucky guy that’s got you all flustered?"
I hesitated for a moment before deciding to confide in her, "His name is Mark, and he’s... well, he’s everything I’ve been missing."
I leaned back in my chair and watched as a look of curiosity crossed her face.
"Everything you’ve been missing?"
Sarah repeated, setting the dirty dishes down on my desk.
"Yeah, he’s kind, caring, thoughtful, and attentive," I replied softly, watching as a look of understanding crossed her face.
She pulled a chair out from under my desk and sat down, "So, how did you meet him?"
"We met at the beach," I replied, watching as she nodded thoughtfully.
"And we’ve been meeting up there every morning before work to talk."
"And what’s the plan for this weekend?"
Sarah asked, watching me with a curious smile.
"Well, I was thinking about taking him to that small bed and breakfast in the next town over," I replied softly.
"It has a private beach and a hot tub overlooking the ocean. We could go there for the weekend."
"Sounds nice," Sarah said, nodding thoughtfully.
"And how old is Mark?"
I hesitated for a moment before answering, "Twenty-five."
Sarah raised her eyebrows slightly before reaching across the desk to squeeze my hand.
"Mom, I’ve seen how unhappy you’ve been with dad," she said softly.
