Today is a special day, more special than any other day, today is my 18th birthday, should be excited, right?
But I'm not, I still haven't gotten my wolf.
Being the alpha's daughter is hard enough, but not knowing if you will get a wolf or not is harder.
All my friends have gotten theirs and here I am still waiting.
I just hope my wolf is strong and fast so that I can protect myself first and then my pack as well.
My parents are super duper excited.
They have invited every alpha's son from every pack you could possibly think of.
I'm not so excited about that but they tell me I'll get to meet my mate today.
I just hope he's nice and not a jerk like some of them are.
I just want to go home and lay down, these last two weeks of preparing for this party have been crazy.
The guests are starting to arrive now and the Moon is almost full.
I hear a knock on the door and I tell whoever it is to come in.
My father walks in; he has a small box in his hand and a smile on his lips.
"Happy birthday princess," he tells me as he hands me the box.
"Put this on and be downstairs, all the guests have arrived, the Moon is also full."
The Alpha's Daughter
I sit at my vanity, turning the box over in my hands.
It's a delicate silver box with intricate designs on it.
I carefully lift the lid and inside lies a midnight blue gown that catches the light from the lamp.
Beneath it is a matching set of diamond earrings and a silver crescent moon necklace nestled in black velvet.
My hands shake as I slip into the gown, the silk cool against my skin.
The Alpha's Daughter
I fasten the jewelry, each piece feeling heavier than it should.
The mirror reflects back a stranger - someone more regal, more adult.
From downstairs, the steady hum of voices and laughter grows louder.
I take one final breath, smooth my dress, and step into the hallway.
I take one last look in my bedroom mirror.
The midnight blue fabric drapes elegantly over my slender frame, the diamond earrings glinting at my ears.
The crescent moon necklace rests against my collarbone, the silver a perfect match for the moonlight streaming in through the window.
I smooth the dress one last time, tugging the delicate fabric down over my thighs.
The dress is a perfect fit, hugging me in all the right places and falling just above my knees.
The sleeves are long and flowing, pooling at my wrists.
I turn to leave but pause as I catch sight of myself in the mirror.
I look like a stranger - someone more polished, more refined.
Someone who belongs at parties and balls, not playing in the woods with wolves.
I turn away from the mirror and walk to the window, pushing it open to let in the cool night air.
Outside, the full moon is climbing higher in the sky, casting a silver glow over everything it touches.
I can feel its call deep within me, urging me to shift and run wild under its light. I step back from the window and glance around my bedroom one last time.
The walls are painted a soothing pale blue, adorned with framed photographs of me as a child and posters of wolves roaming free in the forest.
My bed is covered in a patchwork of blankets and pillows, inviting me to curl up with a good book or take a nap.
The desk where I do my homework is cluttered with papers and textbooks, my laptop open to a page of notes I'd been working on earlier.
I take one last breath of home before turning away and closing the door behind me.
Downstairs, I hear the murmur of guests arriving, their voices rising and falling as they mingle and laugh together.
I can hear clinking glasses and muffled music coming from the living room where everyone is gathered.
I take one last breath of courage before stepping out into the hallway. The hardwood floor creaks beneath my feet as I walk towards the grand staircase that curves down into the main living area below.
I can hear my mother calling up to me from where she stands at the bottom of the stairs, "Luna! Come on down! Everyone's here!"
I take another deep breath before answering her call, "Coming!"
I make my way down to meet our guests.
As I descend the stairs, a sudden warmth spreads through my chest, and I know my wolf has finally arrived.
