Kyle
He is an eightyearold boy who lives in a small town with his family. He is brave, kindhearted, and curious. Kyle and his friends, Scott, Danny, Aaron, and Audrey, find a mysterious alien child crying in the woods. They try to help him return to his home planet. Kyle feels proud of himself for being brave and forms a strong bond with his friends as they work together to solve the mystery of the alien's presence.
Aaron
He is one of Kyle's friends. He is calm, thoughtful, and strategic. Aaron provides a rational perspective in situations and helps balance out his friends' eagerness. He suggests using their knowledge of astronomy to figure out how to reach the alien's home planet. His composure is essential in tackling the mystery.
Audrey
She is Kyle's friend. She is empathetic, creative, and brave. Audrey feels sorry for the alien child and wants to help it. She suggests using music as a way to communicate since it works for humans. Her emotional intelligence and resourcefulness are key in approaching the alien problem with empathy.
I was playing catch with my dog, Max, in our front yard when I saw a bright light streak across the sky.
It was heading in the direction of the woods, so I couldn’t see where it went or what it was.
But I had a feeling that it was something important.
"Hey, Kyle! You coming or what?" my friend Danny yelled from his front porch next door.
He was my neighbor and one of my closest friends.
My other friends, Scott, Aaron, and Audrey were already waiting in Danny’s front yard.
They had all come over here after school.
We were going to explore the woods, but we hadn’t made it that far yet.
I grinned at them and tossed my ball in the air before catching it.
"Let’s go!"
I yelled and ran down the sidewalk with Max on my heels.
He was my golden retriever and loved dogs, so he got along great with Danny’s bulldog Duke.
When I reached Danny’s front yard, I stopped and looked at my friends.
"Hey guys. What’s the plan?"
Scott grinned at me.
"I built something that might help us."
He held up a weird device that looked like a walkie-talkie.
"What is that?"
I asked him.
"A communicator," he replied.
"But it only works on line of sight. If we get too far apart, it won’t work."
"Cool," I said and nodded at him.
"Let’s go," Scott said and started walking down the dirt path that led to the woods.
The rest of us followed him with Max and Duke running ahead of us.
Scott fiddled with his communicator while he walked, making static noises come from it.
The sun was starting to set, but it was still late afternoon.
We had plenty of time to explore before we had to head home for dinner.
As we reached the edge of the forest, I saw that the trees were taller here than they had been when I was younger.
They blocked out most of the sunlight, making it darker than usual.
I could hear birds chirping and leaves rustling in the wind.
"Look at that," Audrey said and pointed up at a broken branch high above our heads.
"It looks like something big went through here."
She was right; there were several branches broken off near the top of the tree.
Whatever had done this must have been huge. "Let’s follow it," Aaron said and started walking deeper into the woods.
We followed him, our shoes crunching on fallen leaves and twigs.
Danny pulled out a roll of bright orange tape from his backpack and tied it around a tree trunk so we could find our way back later.
The woods grew denser as we walked further in, until it was almost dark under the canopy of branches above us.
But then I saw something ahead - a faint blue glow coming from between two trees.
"What’s that?" she asked, pointing at the light.
"I don’t know," I replied, "but let’s check it out."
As we stepped closer, the glow intensified, revealing a hidden path that none of us had ever seen before.
I crept forward with my friends close behind, drawn to the pulsing blue light.
Max and Duke growled softly, their fur standing on end.
Through the gap between the trees, we found a narrow dirt path winding deeper into the woods.
Scott pulled out his communicator, which emitted strange static sounds.
Danny’s hands shook as he tied another piece of orange tape to a branch.
Audrey gasped and pointed to weird symbols carved into the tree trunks - they looked fresh, glowing faintly in the growing darkness.
Aaron whispered about turning back, but before we could decide, rustling leaves and snapping twigs made us freeze.
"Did you hear that?" Audrey whispered, her voice barely audible over the rustling.
"Yeah, and I think it's coming closer," Danny replied, gripping his communicator tightly.
"Guys, I think we need to see what it is," Scott said, his eyes fixed on the shadows ahead.
