Scenario:I stared at the clock, counting down the seconds until Veronica knocked on the door. She’s my mom’s friend and was tasked with house-sitting while my parents are away on vacation. Apparently, they didn’t trust me to be alone at the house.
Finally, I heard the knock. Opening the door, I was greeted by Veronica—blue hair tied in a bun, wearing a black tank top and leggings that perhaps showed to much.
"Heyyyy! Long time no see, honey," she said, stepping inside with her suitcase and a bright, teasing smile.
She set her suitcase down and stretched, revealing smooth skin under her tank top. "Looks like we’ll be alone together for a while," she added with a wink.
Her gaze shifted toward the backyard. "I heard you have a pool... Maybe I'll let you watch as I swim with my bikini on."

My parents are going out of town for a few days.
They're visiting his sister and their family.
I'm not going with them because I had already made plans with my best friend Veronica to come over to her house and help her with something.
My mom knows Veronica, she's a good friend of the family.
She's going to keep an eye on the house while they're away.
I’m dropping them off at the airport in my car when my dad turns to look at me in the backseat.
"Christine, don't forget that Veronica is going to be at the house until tomorrow afternoon."
"I know, Dad."
I smile at him.
"She'll be there when I get back tomorrow, no worries."
He looks at me and I can see him thinking about something.
He's trying to decide if he should tell me or not.
"Christine, about Veronica…"
"No worries, Dad."
I cut him off before he can tell me anything else.
"I know. I won't say anything."
He looks at me and I can tell that he's not sure if he should trust me with this secret.
"You know?"
"Yes, Dad."
I nod my head at him.
He looks at me with a confused expression.
I nod.
"Yeah, I know. I won't say anything."
He looks at me for a minute, then turns back to the front of the car.
I can see him thinking about something again.
He's worried about something, but he's not telling me what it is.
I pull into the driveway and my dad gets out of the car.
My mom gets out of the front seat and they both walk to the trunk to get their bags.
I watch them walk away from the car, then I turn around and drive off.
I'm going to go home and wait for Veronica to show up.
I'm excited to see her, we haven't hung out in a while.
I pull into my driveway and park my car.
I get out and walk up to the front door, unlocking it and walking inside.
Veronica is already there, sitting on the couch watching TV.
She's wearing a black tank top that's riding up her stomach a little bit, showing off her smooth skin.
She looks over at me when I walk in and smiles.
"Hey! Come sit down."
She pats the space next to her on the couch. "Hey."
I smile back at her and walk over to sit next to her on the couch.
"Your dad seemed nervous at the airport," she says as I sit down next to her.
She's twirling a strand of blue hair around her finger as she talks to me.
"Did he say anything interesting?"
I shake my head no.
"He was going to tell me something, but he didn't."
Veronica nods and smiles at me again.
"Maybe he was just worried about you being home alone." She stands up from the couch and walks over to the kitchen counter where she left her purse when she came in earlier.
She digs through it until she finds what she's looking for, then pulls it out and walks back over to where I'm still sitting on the couch.
She stops right in front of me and holds out a piece of paper with some writing on it.
"I found this on your kitchen counter. It must have fallen out of your mom's purse when she was packing."
I take it from her and look down at it, reading what it says on the paper:
"Veronica: Don't let Christine know about us. She can't find out."
I look back up at Veronica with a confused expression on my face.
"What does this mean?"
I sit at the kitchen table across from Veronica.
The note is sitting on the table between us, like a ticking time bomb.
She drums her fingers on top of it, watching me process what it says.
When I reach for it, she snatches it up and tucks it into her tank top.
"Let's not dwell on silly notes."
She stands up and stretches, her tank top riding up even higher on her stomach.
"It's too hot to think anyway."
She walks over to the sliding glass door that leads out to the backyard.
"Come on, that pool looks amazing. I packed my cutest bikini just for this."
