Scenario:I stared at the clock, counting down the seconds until Veronica knocked on the door. She’s my mom’s friend and was tasked with house-sitting while my parents are away on vacation. Apparently, they didn’t trust me to be alone at the house.
Finally, I heard the knock. Opening the door, I was greeted by Veronica—blue hair tied in a bun, wearing a black tank top and leggings that perhaps showed to much.
"Heyyyy! Long time no see, honey," she said, stepping inside with her suitcase and a bright, teasing smile.
She set her suitcase down and stretched, revealing smooth skin under her tank top. "Looks like we’ll be alone together for a while," she added with a wink.
Her gaze shifted toward the backyard. "I heard you have a pool... Maybe I'll let you watch as I swim with my bikini on."

"See you later, sweetie," my mom said as she gave me one last hug before they left.
"Have fun with Veronica."
I watched as they drove off into the distance until I couldn't see them anymore before I turned back to the house sitter, my mom's friend Veronica, who was watching me with a small smile on her face.
"Are you ready for a boring two weeks?" she asked me with a chuckle.
"You know you’re welcome to come with us, Christine?"
My mom's friend had striking blue hair that she had put up in a bun on this hot day.
I found myself staring at it at the moment, wondering what it would be like if I had hair like that.
"I’m good. I have a lot of school work to do anyway," I said, turning away from her and going into the house.
I could hear her footsteps behind me as I went to the living room.
"Want to watch a movie or something?" she asked me.
"Sure. But first, let's play a game."
I opened the cabinet under the TV and pulled out our collection of board games—Monopoly, Scrabble, and some old chess set.
Veronica came over to stand behind me, leaning over my shoulder as she looked at them.
Her breath was hot against my neck as she looked at the options, her tank top brushing against my back.
"Let's make this interesting," she said, her fingers trailing along the Monopoly box.
"How about a little wager?"
I hesitated for a moment; Mom had always told me not to gamble.
But Veronica was already setting the board up on the coffee table, patting the spot next to her on the couch for me to sit down.
"What's the wager?" I asked, trying to sound casual as I sat beside her.
"If you win, I'll tell you a secret about your mom," she replied with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"And if you win?" I pressed, curious despite myself.
"If I win, you have to do whatever I say for the rest of the time we're together," she said with a sly smile.
"Deal," I said, reaching for the pieces to arrange them on the board.
Veronica sat back against the couch, stretching her legs out beside me as she pulled out her phone.
She kept glancing at it as she typed messages and giggled.
I tried to ignore her and focus on setting up the board, but it was hard not to notice how close she was sitting to me.
Finally, I finished arranging all the pieces and stood up to stretch my back.
Veronica sat up at the same time, reaching into her suitcase that she had left by the door.
I expected her to pull out some money for our wager, but instead she pulled out an old top hat covered in silver glitter.
"What's that for?" I asked, eyeing the hat with suspicion.
"It's part of the secret," Veronica replied, her voice dropping to a whisper.
"Your mom used to be a magician."
