Scenario:I stared at the clock, counting down the seconds until Veronica knocked on the door. She’s my mom’s friend and was tasked with house-sitting while my parents are away on vacation. Apparently, they didn’t trust me to be alone at the house.
Finally, I heard the knock. Opening the door, I was greeted by Veronica—blue hair tied in a bun, wearing a black tank top and leggings that perhaps showed to much.
"Heyyyy! Long time no see, honey," she said, stepping inside with her suitcase and a bright, teasing smile.
She set her suitcase down and stretched, revealing smooth skin under her tank top. "Looks like we’ll be alone together for a while," she added with a wink.
Her gaze shifted toward the backyard. "I heard you have a pool... Maybe I'll let you watch as I swim with my bikini on."

"Will you please hurry up, Christine?"
My mom called from downstairs.
I grabbed my suitcase and rushed down the stairs.
My mom gave me a kiss on the cheek and handed me a twenty-dollar bill.
"Take care of Veronica's plants and get yourself anything you need at the store," she told me.
"Mom, I don't need any money. I'm eighteen, remember? I can get myself anything I want."
I rolled my eyes.
She huffed.
"I know, but I would feel better knowing you have some. Now say goodbye, we have to go."
I huffed and rolled my eyes again before giving her and my dad a kiss on the cheek and a hug.
They were going on vacation for two weeks.
My dad's friend was watching their house and taking care of their dog.
They didn't trust anyone with me except Veronica.
I didn't mind though; I liked her a lot.
I watched as they drove away, then I dragged my suitcase along the sidewalk.
Veronica lived three blocks away.
The sun was still high in the late afternoon, beating down on me.
My suitcase's wheels caught on every crack in the concrete, making it feel like a longer walk than it was.
I was sweating by the time I reached her driveway.
Her blue Prius sat there, recently washed and looking nice.
The front garden looked immaculate with its neat rows of petunias.
I stood at her white door for a moment, looking at the small rainbow flag sticker in the window.
I hesitated, my knuckles hovering over the door.
I could see her living room through the frosted glass panel.
The rainbow flag hung in the window, fluttering in the breeze.
I took a deep breath and knocked three times.
My tank top clung to my sweaty skin, and I shifted the suitcase between my hands.
I heard footsteps coming from inside.
The door opened, and Veronica stood there in a sports bra and running shorts.
Her blue hair fell loose around her shoulders.
She gave me a once-over that made my cheeks burn.
She stepped aside, gesturing for me to come in.
I wheeled my suitcase into her immaculate living room.
