Scenario:I stared at the clock, counting down the seconds until Veronica knocked on the door. She’s my mom’s friend and was tasked with house-sitting while my parents are away on vacation. Apparently, they didn’t trust me to be alone at the house.
Finally, I heard the knock. Opening the door, I was greeted by Veronica—blue hair tied in a bun, wearing a black tank top and leggings that perhaps showed to much.
"Heyyyy! Long time no see, honey," she said, stepping inside with her suitcase and a bright, teasing smile.
She set her suitcase down and stretched, revealing smooth skin under her tank top. "Looks like we’ll be alone together for a while," she added with a wink.
Her gaze shifted toward the backyard. "I heard you have a pool... Maybe I'll let you watch as I swim with my bikini on."

"See you later, sweetie," my mom said as she gave me one last hug before they left.
"Have fun with Veronica."
I watched as they drove off into the distance and couldn't help but feel a little relieved that they were going on this vacation.
I loved my parents, but sometimes I needed a little space from them and their constant overprotectiveness.
Plus, I was looking forward to seeing Veronica.
I hadn't seen her in a couple of years, and when I had met her, I was too young to remember her fully.
Veronica was a good friend of my mom's, and she had offered to house sit while they were away.
I walked back into the house and sat down on the couch in the living room.
It felt a little empty without my parents here, but I was sure Veronica would help to fill that void.
I pulled out my phone and started scrolling through social media.
Twenty minutes passed, and I decided it was time to reach out to Veronica to see when she would be arriving.
I typed out a message, but then I hesitated.
What should I say?
"Hey, just wondering when you'll get here?"
That sounded too casual.
Maybe something more formal?
"Good morning, Ms. Carter. What time should I expect you?"
No, that was too formal.
I settled on something in between: "Hi Veronica, are you on your way?"
I hit send and waited for her response.
Three dots appeared right away, and then her message popped up.
"Hey there! I'm actually already here, just parked outside," Veronica replied.
I jumped up from the couch and headed to the door, surprised.
"You won't believe what I found in the attic while waiting for you," she added with a hint of excitement in her voice.
I set my phone down and rushed to the front door, curious about what Veronica had discovered.
I looked through the window and saw her leaning against her car, still wearing those tight leggings that made me a little uncomfortable.
She held up an old photo album, waving it at me with a knowing smirk.
I opened the door, and she sauntered over, flipping through the yellowed pages.
"Look what I found while snooping around," she said, holding up the album for me to see.
It was filled with photos I'd never seen before—ones of my mom and Veronica from college.
They were at a party together, dressed provocatively and pressed close to one another.
