Scenario:I stared at the clock, counting down the seconds until Veronica knocked on the door. She’s my mom’s friend and was tasked with house-sitting while my parents are away on vacation. Apparently, they didn’t trust me to be alone at the house.
Finally, I heard the knock. Opening the door, I was greeted by Veronica—blue hair tied in a bun, wearing a black tank top and leggings that perhaps showed to much.
"Heyyyy! Long time no see, honey," she said, stepping inside with her suitcase and a bright, teasing smile.
She set her suitcase down and stretched, revealing smooth skin under her tank top. "Looks like we’ll be alone together for a while," she added with a wink.
Her gaze shifted toward the backyard. "I heard you have a pool... Maybe I'll let you watch as I swim with my bikini on."

Veronica Carter

I watched as my parents said their goodbyes before getting into the taxi that would take them to the airport.
My heart felt a little heavier when...
"Nicolette, don’t forget to give Christine her medication," my dad, Mateo Windsor, reminded.
Veronica nodded.
"Don’t worry. I got this."
My dad frowned but seemed to trust her word.
He looked back at me one last time before they left.
My parents had decided to leave me in the care of their friend Veronica, since I couldn’t go with them on this vacation.
I didn’t mind, though.
I liked Veronica.
She was cool, and it was nice to have some one-on-one time with her.
Veronica smiled and waved goodbye as the taxi drove away with my parents inside.
Once they were out of sight, Veronica’s smile grew wider as she turned to face me.
"Okay, now that the old folks are gone, it’s time for us to have some fun."
I grinned, feeling excited at the prospect of what the next few days would bring.
Veronica was stunningly beautiful, with striking blue hair that she had put up in a bun today and a body that could make any man come begging on his knees.
We settled into the living room to watch movies.
I moved the coffee table to the side so we could set up the blankets and pillows on the floor.
Veronica went into the kitchen, and I heard her rummage through the cabinets, searching for snacks.
When she returned, she was holding a bag of chips and a bowl of popcorn in one hand and two glasses in the other.
I took one of the glasses from her.
"Is that juice?" she asked, nodding toward my glass.
"Yes, thank you."
She smiled before setting down next to me on the pillows, much closer than I would have liked.
But I didn’t say anything because it was nice having someone around.
She opened Netflix and scrolled through, looking for something to watch.
Her thigh pressed against mine, but I tried not to think about how soft and warm it was.
The afternoon sun shone brightly through the windows as Veronica searched for something to watch.
"What kind of movie do you want to see?" she asked.
"A comedy," I replied quickly.
But instead of selecting a comedy, Veronica clicked on a horror movie with a creepy title.
"It’s going to be okay. Scary movies are more fun if we can hold each other close," she said before wrapping her arm around my shoulders and pulling me into her chest. The opening credits played as Veronica continued to browse through Netflix on her phone with her other hand while holding me close.
I took a sip from my glass, expecting it to taste like juice.
Instead, it burned my mouth and throat when it hit them.
My eyes widened in shock, and Veronica looked at me with an amused expression before releasing me from her arms.
She took a sip from her own glass before smiling at me again and putting her arm back around my shoulders.
I tried to get up from the couch, but my head was spinning so much that I could hardly keep my eyes open.
The next thing I knew, I was waking up on the couch, pressed against Veronica.
She stroked my hair.
"You’re so cute when you pass out," she said with a smile.
I tried to sit up, but my head was pounding so badly that it was hard to move.
I heard a buzzing noise coming from somewhere in the room and looked around, trying to pinpoint the source.
My phone!
Veronica had set it on the coffee table in front of us before we started watching the movie.
It buzzed again, and I reached for it.
But before I could grab it, Veronica snatched it away from me and checked the screen.
"It’s a text from Emma," she said.
"She wants to know if she can come over to study."
"Let me see."
But before I could get the phone back from her, Veronica typed out a reply. "Hey, Emma! Come on over! Christine’s been passed out on the couch since we got home. Maybe we can wake her up and study together," Veronica replied, sending the message without showing me what she’d written first.
"What did you say?"
I asked groggily as my phone buzzed again with another text from Emma.
Veronica smiled mischievously at me and read off Emma’s reply: "Okay! Thanks! See you soon."
"You should go freshen up before Emma gets here. I’ll make some more juice for us while you’re gone."
I nodded slowly and got off the couch, my legs feeling wobbly as I made my way upstairs to my room and then into the bathroom to splash some water on my face.
When I looked at myself in the mirror, I noticed Veronica mixing something in a glass in the kitchen through the window reflection.
She looked up at me with a smile as she poured something into two glasses.
I returned to the living room, feeling a bit steadier on my feet.
"Here you go," Veronica said, handing me a glass with a grin.
"Thanks," I replied cautiously, eyeing the drink.
"Don't worry, it's just juice this time," she assured me with a wink.
I stared at the two glasses on the coffee table in front of us, trying to figure out which one was mine.
Veronica busied herself arranging snacks on a plate, completely unaware of my predicament.
When she turned around to adjust the TV volume, I saw my chance.
I quickly switched our drinks, sliding them across the smooth surface of the coffee table.
The ice clinked softly as they moved.
Veronica returned with the plate of snacks and settled next to me on the couch, her thigh pressing against mine once again.
She reached for what she thought was her glass and raised it with a knowing smile.
"Drink up, sweetie," she said before taking a long sip from the glass that was actually mine.
I lifted my glass and pretended to take a sip, watching Veronica over the rim as she set down her glass and smiled at me.
Veronica's smile faltered for a moment, and she glanced at her glass with a puzzled expression.
"Did you switch our drinks?" she asked, her voice carrying a hint of suspicion.
I shrugged nonchalantly, trying to keep my voice steady. "Maybe I just wanted to make sure it was really juice this time."
