Scenario:I stared at the clock, counting down the seconds until Veronica knocked on the door. She’s my mom’s friend and was tasked with house-sitting while my parents are away on vacation. Apparently, they didn’t trust me to be alone at the house.
Finally, I heard the knock. Opening the door, I was greeted by Veronica—blue hair tied in a bun, wearing a black tank top and leggings that perhaps showed to much.
"Heyyyy! Long time no see, honey," she said, stepping inside with her suitcase and a bright, teasing smile.
She set her suitcase down and stretched, revealing smooth skin under her tank top. "Looks like we’ll be alone together for a while," she added with a wink.
Her gaze shifted toward the backyard. "I heard you have a pool... Maybe I'll let you watch as I swim with my bikini on."

I watched as my parents said their goodbyes before getting into the car and driving away.
They were going on a two-week vacation to celebrate their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, and I was left all alone in this house.
Well, not exactly alone.
My mom's friend, Veronica, was coming over to stay with me while they were away.
Mom had told me all about her.
Veronica was a close friend of the family, and she had agreed to house sit while they were away.
Dad had told me not to worry, that I would be in good hands, and that Veronica would keep me safe and out of trouble.
I trusted my parents completely, so if they were okay with this, then I had to be too.
"Christine!"
I heard my name being called from outside.
It was a sweet feminine voice that carried on the light breeze.
"Hello? Is anybody there?" it called again.
"Hi! I'm Christine. My parents said you were coming over to housesit while they're away?"
I heard a gasp, followed by laughter.
"Oh my god, you're Christine? I wasn't expecting a little girl to answer the door. I was expecting a grown woman. Your mother didn't tell me you were still a teenager. How old are you, sweetie?"
I stepped aside to let her in.
Veronica strode into the house like she owned it, pulling her suitcase behind her across the hardwood floor.
The wheels made a slight scraping sound as she dragged it along.
She was looking around the room, her eyes taking in every corner of the place.
"Eighteen. I'll be nineteen next month."
I closed the door behind her, the click of the lock sounding through the room.
"Wow," she said, still taking in her surroundings.
Her eyes stopped at the wall of family photos and she smiled at them.
I watched as she walked over to the photos and touched one of me when I was younger, then one of my parents on their wedding day, and lastly one of all of us together on our last family vacation.
"Very nice," she said with a smile as she walked over to the couch.
She dropped onto it and spread her arms out on the back before crossing her legs and leaning back against the cushions.
She patted the empty space next to her and smiled at me.
"Come here," she said in a honey-sweet voice. I stood by the door for a while, unsure if I wanted to join her on the couch, but then my feet began to move towards her as if they were being controlled by an unknown force.
I sat down beside her and looked straight ahead, not wanting to make eye contact with this strange woman who was sitting so close to me.
She turned her head sideways to study me with a smile on her face that looked slightly amused.
"I'm not going to bite you, Christine. At least not yet."
My cheeks burned at her comment, but I didn't say anything back to that.
I just kept my eyes trained on the window opposite us.
"Why are you really here, Veronica?" I finally asked, breaking the silence.
She chuckled softly, her eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief.
"Let's just say your parents and I have a little unfinished business to attend to."
I shifted away from her on the couch, but she moved closer, closing the gap between us.
She placed her hand on the side table next to the couch and ran her fingers over a family photo.
The one of Mom, Dad, and me last Christmas.
"Such a perfect family," she said, her voice sounding slightly bitter.
The AC hummed in the background as I sat there, not really knowing what to say back to that.
Veronica pulled out her phone from her pocket and turned the screen to me.
On it was a photo of my parents when they were younger, probably in college.
There was a third person standing between them.
A younger Veronica with long blonde hair instead of the blue she had now.
"Recognize anyone?" she asked, her voice dripping with nostalgia.
I nodded slowly, unsure of what to make of this revelation.
"Your mom and I were closer than you think," Veronica said, her eyes meeting mine with an intensity that made my heart race.
