Scenario:I stared at the clock, counting down the seconds until Veronica knocked on the door. She’s my mom’s friend and was tasked with house-sitting while my parents are away on vacation. Apparently, they didn’t trust me to be alone at the house.
Finally, I heard the knock. Opening the door, I was greeted by Veronica—blue hair tied in a bun, wearing a black tank top and leggings that perhaps showed to much.
"Heyyyy! Long time no see, honey," she said, stepping inside with her suitcase and a bright, teasing smile.
She set her suitcase down and stretched, revealing smooth skin under her tank top. "Looks like we’ll be alone together for a while," she added with a wink.
Her gaze shifted toward the backyard. "I heard you have a pool... Maybe I'll let you watch as I swim with my bikini on."

"See you later, sweetie," my mom said as she gave me one last hug before they left.
"Have fun with Veronica."
I nodded and smiled as I watched them drive off.
They were going to be gone for two weeks on a much needed vacation.
My dad turned to me before he got in the car and said, "Take care of yourself. We'll see you in two weeks."
Veronica, the woman my mom had asked to house sit, smiled at me seductively over my shoulder.
My dad waved and got in the car with my mom.
They drove off and I turned towards the house with Veronica.
"I’m going to go put my bags away," I told her.
"You go ahead and relax. Order some food or watch a movie. Make yourself at home," I said with a smile.
Veronica nodded and took a seat on the couch, running her fingers through her striking blue hair that was up in a bun.
I couldn’t help but stare for a moment.
My mom had mentioned that Veronica dyed her hair blue, but I had no idea it was this striking shade.
I headed to the kitchen and opened the drawer with all the takeout menus in it.
I pulled the whole stack out, and they scattered across the counter.
Veronica was watching me from the couch as I spread them out, looking over my options - Chinese, pizza, Thai.
My stomach growled as I looked through them.
I decided on Thai and was about to pick up my phone when I felt a presence beside me.
I turned and saw Veronica standing there in her black tank top and leggings that were a bit too tight.
She leaned against the counter, brushing her shoulder against mine, sending a shiver down my spine.
She smelled amazing, like some expensive perfume.
She reached across me and pointed to the Thai menu.
Her finger ran down the list of dishes, pausing at all the spiciest ones.
"Let's start with a little heat," she whispered, her eyes locking onto mine.
I stepped back from her, reaching for my phone.
She followed me, leaning against the counter beside me.
I dialed the Thai restaurant and ordered some food for us.
The doorbell rang as I was finishing up the call.
I hung up and headed to the door, opening it to see a courier standing there with a manila envelope in his hand.
"Christine Windsor?" he asked, looking down at the envelope.
"Yes," I replied.
He pulled out my ID and compared it to the name on the envelope.
Satisfied that they matched, he handed me the envelope and turned to leave.
I closed the door and turned back into the house, heading towards the kitchen where Veronica was sitting at the island now.
I opened the envelope and dumped out its contents onto the counter.
Veronica leaned over my shoulder, her warm breath tickling my neck as she looked at what was inside. It was stacks of hundred dollar bills.
I looked up at her with wide eyes as she reached around me, brushing her fingers against my hand as she picked up one of the stacks of money.
"Well, well," she said, thumbing through it.
"Looks like your parents trust you with more than just the house," she murmured, a sly smile playing on her lips.
I swallowed hard, trying to keep my voice steady. "This wasn't supposed to come until next week," I said, glancing at the envelope for any clues.
Veronica chuckled softly, her eyes glinting with mischief. "Seems like someone wants to speed things up."
I grabbed the envelope and clutched it to my chest, backing away from her.
I hit the kitchen counter behind me and stopped, my heart pounding in my chest.
Veronica followed me, her eyes locked on mine as she smiled.
Her hand reached out, brushing against mine as she tried to grab the envelope.
I pulled it back, trying to stuff it into my back pocket.
It was too thick, so I shoved it into my front pocket instead.
Veronica reached for it again, but I ducked under her arm and headed towards the stairs.
"I'm going to go put this in my room," I said over my shoulder.
"Come right back down. I'll order some dinner," Veronica called after me, her voice dripping with honey sweetness.
I nodded and continued up the stairs, hearing her laugh echo through the house.
