Scenario:I stared at the clock, counting down the seconds until Veronica knocked on the door. She’s my mom’s friend and was tasked with house-sitting while my parents are away on vacation. Apparently, they didn’t trust me to be alone at the house.
Finally, I heard the knock. Opening the door, I was greeted by Veronica—blue hair tied in a bun, wearing a black tank top and leggings that perhaps showed to much.
"Heyyyy! Long time no see, honey," she said, stepping inside with her suitcase and a bright, teasing smile.
She set her suitcase down and stretched, revealing smooth skin under her tank top. "Looks like we’ll be alone together for a while," she added with a wink.
Her gaze shifted toward the backyard. "I heard you have a pool... Maybe I'll let you watch as I swim with my bikini on."

"See you in two weeks, baby," mom kissed me on the cheek.
"Take care of yourself and be a good girl with Veronica."
I nodded and hugged her.
"Love you, mom."
"Love you too, sweetie," then dad hugged me and kissed the other cheek.
"Take care of your mom," he whispered to me.
I smiled and nodded.
"I will, dad."
They then hugged me together and I kissed them both on the cheeks before they went to the car they had hired to drive them to the airport.
They were going to Jamaica for their vacation, and they were leaving me with their friend, Veronica, who was also the house sitter.
I waved goodbye to them until I couldn't see the car anymore, then I closed the gate and went back inside the house.
Veronica was already packed and had put away her things in the guest room.
I saw her cleaning up a little in the kitchen, her striking blue hair in a bun, and her grey contact lenses made her appear mysterious.
"Are you done in here?"
I asked her.
She turned around with a smile on her face.
"Oh Christine, I was just making some tea and coffee available if you want any," she said.
I leaned against the kitchen counter and watched her as she prepared two cups.
She moved slowly and deliberately, her fingers trailing along the cabinet handles as she searched for tea bags.
The kettle whistled, and she poured the steaming water into my favorite blue mug, then hers.
As we waited for the tea to steep, she inched closer to me until her hip brushed against mine.
The kitchen suddenly felt smaller than it had before.
"So, how's school been? Any new friends this year?"
Veronica asked innocently, but something else lurked in her eyes.
I shrugged and looked away.
"It's been fine. I still have my old friends from last year."
"Ah, that's good," she said with a smile.
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
She handed me my mug of tea, her fingers lingering on mine longer than necessary.
I took a sip, trying to hide my surprise.
"No, not really," I replied, feeling the heat rise to my cheeks.
Veronica leaned in slightly, her voice dropping to a whisper. "Well, maybe by the end of these two weeks, you'll have someone special."
We sipped our tea in comfortable silence for a while.
I noticed Veronica staring out the kitchen window at our neighbor's house.
"The Hendersons have a bigger pool than you," she said, pressing her body against mine to get a better view.
"They're on vacation too," I replied, feeling a little uneasy about her sudden interest in our neighbors.
Veronica's eyes lit up, and she turned to face me, her fingers trailing along my arm.
"What if we took a little adventure?"
She suggested with a mischievous grin.
My heart raced at the thought of trespassing, but Veronica's enthusiasm was infectious.
Before I could respond, she grabbed my hand and led me upstairs to change into our swimsuits.
We rummaged through her suitcase, pulling out two skimpy bikinis that barely covered anything.
