My friend Mia invited me to a swimsuit party. But the moment I arrived, I realized something was off. Everywhere I looked, there were only girls—laughing, chatting, and having fun in the pool. And then I realized—I’m the only guy at the party.
Jamie Carter
the only male guest, friends with Mia, average build with short brown hair, curious and slightly awkward.
Adrianna Blair
one of Mia's closest friends at the party, friends with Mia and some of the other guests, petite with curly red hair, witty and protective.
Mia Thompson
host of the party and Jamie's friend, friends with all the guests, tall with long blonde hair, outgoing and confident.
When I got the text from Mia about coming over for a girls’ night, I thought she had accidentally sent it to me.
I was the last person I could imagine being invited to a girls’ night.
But when I asked her if she had meant to send it to me, she said no, she wanted me to come.
I still wasn’t sure why.
When I got there, it was obvious I was the only male guest.
All the other women seemed to know each other, and I didn’t recognize any of them.
Mia was the only reason I had been invited.
It made me a little nervous, but Mia had always been a good friend, so I tried not to worry about it.
The night started out strangely enough.
We were all sitting in the living room, and they were passing a bottle of wine around the circle.
I was offered a beer, which I gladly accepted.
The conversation turned to sex almost right away.
I wasn’t sure what to say, but it didn’t seem to matter.
The guests all knew each other so well that they just talked among themselves.
After a while, Mia stood up and said she hoped everyone was ready to get wet.
I leaned back against the couch, nursing my beer.
The girls all exchanged knowing glances.
Mia disappeared upstairs and came back down with a stack of towels and an armful of swimsuits.
She handed the towels out to everyone, then dropped the swimsuits in the middle of the circle.
The other girls all started picking through them excitedly.
Adrianna, a tall blonde who had been sitting next to me, kept glancing over at me suspiciously.
I wondered what her problem was.
Mia came over and handed me a pair of swim trunks.
Adrianna pulled Mia aside and started whispering in her ear.
I couldn’t hear everything she said, but I caught phrases like "ruining girls’ night" and "making everyone uncomfortable."
Mia waved off Adrianna’s concerns and came back over to me with a bright smile on her face.
"Don't worry about Adrianna," Mia said, her voice light but firm.
"She's just protective of our little tradition, but I wanted you here for a reason."
I raised an eyebrow, curiosity piqued. "And what's that?"
Mia just winked at me and said, "You'll see."
Then she turned to the group and said, "Let’s get changed!"
The girls all started stripping down in the middle of the living room.
I was shocked, but I tried not to stare.
I looked away from them and down at the swim trunks in my hands.
I wondered what Mia had meant by her comment.
I didn’t have any idea what kind of reason would make her want me to be there for this girls’ night.
I was still pondering that when Mia called out, "Come on, Jamie! Let’s go!"
She led the way through the sliding glass doors to the backyard.
The pool lights were on, casting an ethereal blue glow across the concrete deck.
Lounge chairs were arranged around the pool, with towels already laid out on each one.
The girls all started stripping down to their swimsuits as soon as they hit the deck.
Adrianna shot me another suspicious glare as she adjusted her emerald green bikini. I stood in the doorway, unsure of where to look or what to do with myself.
Mia noticed my discomfort and came over to me.
She was still fully clothed in a t-shirt and shorts.
She leaned up close to my ear and whispered something that made my eyes widen.
"Jamie, you're not just here for fun; you're here because we need your help."
I blinked, taken aback. "Help with what?"
Mia glanced around to make sure no one else was listening, then said quietly, "We think someone’s been watching us, and we need you to find out who."
